Chapter 10

Ani POV

Dinner with Vanessa and Lin goes well. We're going to court early tomorrow morning which I'm anxious about, but Lily, V, and I are seeing Hamilton in the evening so I'm super exited for that.

We pick out a Disney movie to watch before we go to bed. Lin suggests The Little Mermaid, since that's his favorite. Sebastian fell asleep on the way home from dinner, so V put him in his room.

Lily, Lin, and I sing all the songs. I'm surprised I remember all of the lyrics. Before the accident happened, I was a Disney freak. I had an ever-growing tsum-tsum collection in my bedroom which I actually took with me to a foster home, but it got lost or someone stole it.

Vanessa falls asleep beside Lin. After the movie is over, he whispers that he will be right back and picks V up and takes her to their room. Lily yawns beside me and lays her head on my shoulder.

"Are you falling asleep too?", I poke her stomach which makes her pull her knees up to her chest and she lays her head in my lap.

"That was one of my bruises", she groans.

"Oh, shoot! I'm so sorry. I was thinking of back to the good times when we would have movie nights and you would always be the first to sleep. The only way I could get you to stay awake was to tickle and poke you. I totally forgot about you bruise, I'm sorry", I tell her genuinely concerned.

She shrugs and replies,"It's fine. It just hurts even more now."

I sigh,"Can I see it? Your bruise, I mean."

She nods and lift up her shirt just enough to see the baseball sized bruise on her stomach. It's multicolored and looks so painful. "Lils, I'm so sorry", I say tears forming in my eyes. "You got that when he kicked you. Ugh, I should have stopped him or gotten in his way."

"What's wrong?", Lin runs back into the living room when he hears me.

"I was trying to be an annoying older sister and poke her, but I forgot she has a huge bruise", I gently lay my hand on her stomach, which makes her wince.

"It hurts", Lily whines and a tear falls down my face.

"Oh, geez. I'll get an icepack and some pain medicine. Um, Lily, do you mind if I take a picture of your bruise? We could use it against Mr. Ralph tomorrow in court", Lin says grabbing his phone.

"Thank you, and I don't care, go ahead", she tells him. Lin nods and takes a quick picture, then he grabs and icepack out of the freezer.

"Can I lay in our bed with the icepack?", Lily asks Lin who is getting a pain pill out of one of the cabinets.

"Yeah, that's fine", he responds and we walk into our room. Lily takes the pill and lies down on the bed. Lin sets the ice pack on her bruise.

"Leave it on for awhile. Wake me or V up if you two need anything, okay?", Lin pats Lily's arm gently.

"Okay. Thank you, Lin", Lily answers.

"Thank you for everything", I tell him as I get in bed with Lily.

"No problem at all", Lin shuts the door gently.

"Night, Lils. I hope the ice pack helps you bruise", I kiss her head and carefully turn over so I don't bounce the bed and move Lily.

"Thanks, Ani. Goodnight", she says back to me. I fall asleep as soon as I closed my eyes.

My peaceful sleep was interrupted at about 2 A.M. Lily screams so loud I sit up and almost scream too.

"Lily? Shhh, hey wake up! You're dreaming", I shake her but she doesn't open her eyes.

"Ani! No!", she cries and I hear someone walking down the hallway, probably Lin or Vanessa.

"Lily! Please, wake up. You'll wake everyone up. Open your eyes, I'm right here", I plead as I hear the footsteps come closer to our room.

"Ani?", Lily opens her wide eyes and gasps. "You're okay?", she asks somewhat in disbelief.

Before I can answer, Lin opens the door. "What happened? Are you hurt?", he says worriedly.

"Lily had a nightmare", I say calmly and wrap my arms around her. She shakes in my arms and nestles her head on my shoulder.

"S-sorry. I d-didn't mean to wake you up", Lily lets out another sob.

"Oh, no, no it's okay Lily! I promise it's okay. Sebby gets nightmares too. You know what always makes him feel better?", Lin asks and Lily shakes her head, "Late night snacks", we laugh at him. "I spoil the homeboy, but at leasts he goes to sleep after."

"Talking about it sometimes helps too", I suggest and move the hair out of her face. I feel her tense up and she frowns. "Why don't we eat a snack with Lin and then if you want you can tell us?", I ask and thankfully she agrees.

We tip-toe out of our room and Lin brings us a few chocolate chip cookies and each a glass of milk.

Lily sits beside me on the couch and sighs. "I know I've had bad dreams, but this one was horrible", she dips one of her cookies in the milk.

Lin sits down on the other side of Lily and gives us his full attention.

"You know how sometimes I have super bad dreams. I was hoping you wouldn't have to deal with them, but I guess you do. What was it about?", she looks at me likes she wants to tell me, but she just looks at her snack. "Was it about mom or dad?", I say softly.

Lily shakes her head immediately and looks up at me. "It was about you."

Sorry for not updating recently! Ugh, I'm so ready for summer.

Also, I apologize for the way this chapter ended- I didn't want this to end up being a 2000 word chapter but the next chapter will explain Lily's dream ;)

My answer: To be honest, it depends what songs I've been listening too, but probably Say No To This gets stuck in my head the most. Also One Last Time and Wait for It gets stuck in my head a lot!
