Chapter 11

Lily POV

I'm back in my old room. Sitting up on the pokey mattress that hurts my back, I hear screams. Only one person I know makes those screams- Ani. I open the door and run. I don't care if I get hurt. Ani doesn't deserve to get beat. I run and run. The stairs feel like they are going on forever. Finally, when I get to the bottom, Mr. Ralph is holding Ani in a choke hold. He threatens if I get near, Ani would pay. I didn't dare to get closer, I just froze in my place, watching in horror. He lets Ani go, and I'm thinking he's finished for the night, when he hits the back of her head so hard she falls to the ground. For the first time, Mr. Ralph looks horrified. He yells at Mrs. Hallie that they need to leave. I run over to Ani and tell her to wake up. I say it over and over again. That's when he hits the back of my head too.

I realize now that I'm sobbing and shaking so hard that Lin is concerned. Ani put her cookies and grabbed mine and set it on the side table. She holds me in her arms. "I'm here, I'm not leaving you, baby, it's okay."

Ani is crying too. Lin probably is, but he isn't in the line of my blurry vision. I don't say anything, I guess I'm too shaken up. Ani kisses my forehead and snuggles close to me, not wanting to let me go.

I decide to look over at Lin who looks ticked off. "S-sorry", I whisper to him and his look softens.

"Oh, Lily, I'm not mad at you. I'm mad that Mr. Ralph and Mrs. Hallie had you two for as long as they did", Lin gets closer to us and holds my hand. It's comforting, because I'm always used to Ani and it's nice to have someone else that cares.

I close my eyes and soon the shaking stops. Ani and Lin talk about something, but my mind can't focus on it. I'm so exhausted.

I feel Ani move away from me, and I think Lin picks me up and carries me back to our room. He lays me down and kisses me on the forehead. "Goodnight, Lily", Lin says and I hear the door close.

When I wake up, Ani is back beside me holding on to me. Her phone lights up and it says it's 6:00 A.M. Soon, Lin will be in here waking us up, because we have to be at the court place at 7:45.

"Ani, we need to wake up", I say quietly, but loud enough for her to hear.

Her eyes flutters open and looks at me. "Okay, I'm up. How did you sleep after...", she trails off.

"Well, I didn't have anymore bad dreams", I shrug.

"Good. I talked to Lin about how we have bad dreams every once in awhile. He said he would always be there when we wake up", Ani smiles and sits up and grabs her phone.

"That's nice", I say genuinely happy.

I go over to one of the many bags that we need to put up from shopping with Pippa, Renée, and Jazzy. I pull out a cute pair of overalls and a pink t-shirt to go underneath.

"That's cute", Ani squats down beside me  and shuffles through her bags.

"Thanks", I reply and change into my new outfit. Ani finds a purple and blue floral dress that looks beautiful on her, even though it's a casual dress.

Ani's natural curls falls perfectly over her shoulders. "You look beautiful", I sigh sort of jealous of my older sister.

"Aw thank you, Lils", she walks over and kissed my forehead. "Ready for today?", she looks at me nervously.

"Not really. Ready for it to be over", I groan not wanting to see Mr. Ralph and Mrs. Hallie. "Do you think we have to talk to the judge?"

"Maybe. Hopefully not, but V said if we do just be honest and take our time while we speak", Ani shrugs and grabs her phone.

Lin knocks on the door and peeps his head in. "Oh, good! You two are already up. V is making breakfast and I'm running Seb over to my parents and I'll be back in a little bit", he tells us.

"Okay!", I answer as he smiles and turns around to leave.

After we get ready, Ani and I walk into the kitchen to find Vanessa making us French toast. "Wow! I haven't had French toast in forever", I gasp excitedly as Ani and I sit down at the table.

"Here you go", V smiles and hands a both a plate. "What would you like to drink? We have juice, water, milk..."

"Water", Ani and I answer at the same time which makes her laugh. We thank her at eat our delicious breakfast.

Soon, Lin is home and he is ready to go. Vanessa grabs a few papers and carefully puts them in her purse.

We arrive at the court house and I freeze before we walk in. I start to sweat and my breathing gets really choppy. "What's wrong?", Ani looks at me concerned.

"I don't want to see them", I choke out and start crying. Lin and Vanessa turn around as soon as they notice we aren't following them in.

"Hey, it's okay. We won't let them hurt you", Vanessa comes over and gives me a hug.

I look over to see Ani crying too and Lin gives her a hug. "We will get through this together", he reassures us.

I nod and take Ani's and Vanessa's hand. We walk into the courtroom wondering what's going to happen.

I wanted to let you know that the court chapter will probably be inaccurate but it's a fanfic so hopefully y'all understand haha!

QOTC: How did you find out about Hamilton?

My answer: In my drama class my teacher and a few of my older classmates are obsessed with and so I wanted to listen to it. Also, I heard my cousin rapping Guns and Ships and I wanted to learn more about the musical!!
