(ON HOLD) Always, always - Hamilton Fanfic

A/N: I don't know how the court system actually works so this will probably not accurate

Chapter 12

Ani POV

My heart stops when I see them walk in. They look furious, like they want to be anywhere in the world but this court room. Vanessa tells us to sit in two chairs and Lin sits in the crowd.

I see the cast giving Lin and hugs and he finds a spot. Pippa looks my way for a minute and I wave to her. She smiles and waves back.

"Ani, I'm scared", Lily squeezes my hand tightly.

"Hey, don't be scared. They can't hurt us here. Think about this, tonight we get to see our all-time favorite show Hamilton", I remind her and she nods.

The judge comes out and it begins. It takes a long time and I listen to Mrs. Hallie cry on the stand about how she loves us and never hurt us. It made my blood boil.

The judge asks Vanessa if I could come up. I give her a nervous look and she whispers,"You'll be fine, just tell the truth."

I look around at everyone in the court room. It feels like everyone's eyes are glued to me. After I swear to tell the truth, a man sitting by Mr. Ralph stands up and comes to the front.

"May, I ask her a few questions, Your Honor?", he looks at the judge.

"Yes, you may", the judge nods and the man looks at me.

"This girl claims that she and her sister were abused by my clients. What kind of abuse, do you mean?"

"Physical and mental", I respond. "Both of them would scream at us and hit us until we couldn't move because we were in so much pain. Also, they barely fed us."

"But do we have proof of that?", the man pushes. I'm so annoyed at this point.

"Yes, Lin took pictures of our bruises as evidence", I look him dead in the eye.

"Why would they not feed you?", the guys asks as if it's the most ridiculous question ever.

"When we didn't do our chores right or if we were just one minute late coming home from school, we wouldn't get dinner", I feel tears in my eyes. No, I have to be strong, but I hate this. I want them to pay for what they did, but I don't like being up here in front of all of these people.

"You look nervous. Your Honor, how should we believe a girl who could be lying-"

"Objection", Vanessa exclaims.

"Sustained. No further questions. Ani, you may go back to your seat", the judge says.

Relieved, I walk back to my seat and Lily leans on me. I'm starting to breath fast and my eyes are tearing up.

"Deep breaths", Lily whispers when she feels me getting tense. A box of tissues are beside the table and she hands me a couple.

"Thanks", I close my eyes and and silently cry. Soon, the case is closed.

Mr. Ralph and Mrs. Hallie was found guilty. The guards that were in the room handcuffed them and they are going to be put in jail for a long time. Lin and Vanessa signs the foster papers.

Tears are still streaming down my face. Lily just looks white as a ghost and won't let go of my hand.

The cast waits for us outside of the courthouse. "I'm so proud of you, mija", Lin gives me a big hug.

"I was so scared that I was going to say the wrong thing", I cry into his arms.

"No, you said exactly what you needed to."

He lets go of me and hugs Lily. "I wanna go. I hate it here", she sighs.

"I know, mija. Let's go", he holds her hand and Vanessa holds mine.

She kisses my forehead and we walk out together.

Phillipa is the first to give me a hug when we walk outside to see the cast. "Ani, you were so brave! There is no way I would be able to go up there like you did."

"Thank you, Pippa. Also, thanks for coming", I tell her happily.

"You're welcome", she smiles at me.

Lily runs straight to Jazzy and Ant. Jazzy picks her up and swings her around, which makes her laugh.

The cast takes turns giving us hugs. I notice Lily staring off at some people in the distance. She looks like she's about to pass out.

I push my way through the cast to get to her and she doesn't say anything but points to the people. I squint and see Mr. Ralph and Mrs. Hallie get into a police car.

She falls back into my arms. "Lily, hey, they can't hurt us anymore", she is limp and doesn't respond. Her eyes flutter, but she doesn't open them. "Lily? Wake up!"

I hear Pippa gasp,"Lin, something is wrong."

He runs over and helps me hold her up. "She saw them get put in the police car and just passed out", I say nervous.

"Ani?", she whispers as Lin picks her up bridal style.

"Lils! Are you okay? Open your eyes", I say nervously. She's never passed out like this.

She opens then a little. "I'm scared of them", she cries.

"I am too, but they can't hurt us anymore. You saw them go with the police", I move her hair out of her eyes.

"Lets go to the theatre", Lin tells everyone. I get in Lin's car and he gently sits Lily down beside me.

Lin and Vanessa get in the car and we start our peacefully silent drive to the theatre.
