Third POV---------------------

She stumbled on a branch. The dark forest snuffed out the moonlight, and the camp's bonfire was a sparkle in the void. She ran through the forest, leaping over the river and deeper in. Farther and darker.

She fell again. She couldn't get up. One tree bent over, swooped down and picked her up. She settled at the top of its head, gazing at the stars above. It was early in the night and she had never seen the sky so dark.

Then, one by one, the little specks scattered the black blanket. When the first star came out, she made a wish.

She closed her eyes and wished the best wish she could make.

Looking around her, she noticed that she must have run far since she could neither see or smell the bonfire.

I need to return now.

She thought.

I'll get you.

He answered. Then there was a pause, he asked.

Where are you?

Over here.

She stood up, balancing on the tree and stretched her arm to the sky. She waved at nothing.

Hold on, I see something. Too dark.

She doesn't know I'm far. Don't do anything dumb, dear.

Oh I see something. No now I feel it. Oh. It's your bird. Come on bird, where is she?

My Mon canard

Honey, she's not a duck.

So?

Ok then, what did your "Mon canard" find?

She rolled her eyes then paused, wondered if she could tell him.

Well?

I can't tell you.

Why not?

He sounded disappointed.

I'm not ready yet. I don't really know if what my Mon canard saw was true.

But.

She knew he was pouting.

You see whatever she sees. You can trust me. I won't tell her.

She shook her head.

She knows when something is wrong. When the time is right and she becomes her complete self, I will tell you. Right now it's too dangerous. Can you please stop talking and come get me?

Okay...

A few moments later, something poked her back. Then two hands found her shoulders. One fell to her legs and picked her up. She smiled. She could see his face now.
