Orion.

He fell asleep in my arms, I let him drop back into the bed softly. Letting out a sigh I took the chair next to his bed and plopped down onto it.

It took a good hour to calm him down again, I knew what he dreamed about. It was the same nightmare I had almost every single night. He didn't know I saw him fall, saw them slice his throat. Shaking my head I tried to get rid of the memory. Kita decided to walk in at that moment. She had left when I came bursting through the door. 'How is he?' she asked as she took his pulse, ignoring the fact he flinched even in his sleep. 'He fell asleep a bit ago. When he wakes up I really need to talk to him.' Humming she nodded and replaced his IV. I don't know how he was able to wake up, i gave him a sedative.' she wondered out loud. 'looks like he might be intolerant to it for the most part. just make sure he sleeps allot, he needs it.'

After a few hours he showed signs of waking up, my head shot upwards and I took his hand a bit firmer. He coughed a few times before opening his eyes, looking dazed around the room. Finally his eyes landed on me, I caught how his deep green eyes flickered with blue sparks and he gasped and sat up. He didn't say anything for a while just looked at me, scanning every part of me. 'Killian, how.. are you feeling?' I cleared my throat, this was a lot harder than I thought it would be. 'Feel like shit.' He muttered and looked up at the ceiling. 'Killian, I have to ask. How did you get out of that place?' he didn't respond, I was ready to give up and try again later but then he spoke up. 'I snapped, I could feel it. You were tipping.' I motioned for him to go on. Biting his lip he sighed and looked back at me. 'it gave me the strength I needed, the guards... well they thought I was too weak to do anything so I took them by surprise. I killed them, all of them. And I ran. Just ran till I couldn't anymore.' He took a sharp breath. 'I found a car, some clothes and put them on. I came across one of the people here. Recognised that Damian and they took me to you. Everything after that is a bit blurry.' I leaned back a bit. 'How did you know where to go?' chuckling he let his head fall to one side, making his hair fall over his eyes. 'Honestly Orion, a protector can always find his chosen.' He had a small smirk but it faded fast. 'Don't.' was all he said. 'Is that why I couldn't find you? The link works only one way?' growling he nodded. 'What happened to us, it doesn't happen. When a chosen is attacked and the protector dies, another person closest to you gets the energy to keep the balance. When a chosen dies the protector losses his powers and no new chosen gets awakened. I got taken, not killed. They knew that if they killed me another would take my place and had no way to find you again. So they kept me alive. The fact you couldn't find me kept you safe Orion.' I knew he was right, but that didn't take away the guilt. 'Fucking stop it!' before I knew it I had a pillow smacked against my face. Shocked I watched it fall to the floor. 'Seriously?! How old are you? Ten!?' I felt myself smile a bit. 'doubt I am ten but..uhm..' '26, our birthday was last month.' I gave him back his pillow and he fell back immediately against it. '26 huh? So ten years, felt like more.' Clearing my throat again he focused his eyes on me again. 'Kita our head medic has been checking you up, she should be here soon.' I tried to change the subject. Regretting it the moment I saw his face pale. 'Did you.. see?' his voice soft and cracking. I shook my head. 'she throws me out every time.' That seemed to make him relax a bit, but not entirely. 'she won't hurt you, I trust her and she has been a great friend.' Clicking his tongue he nodded. 'What is this place anyways?' he was looking around again. 'It's an underground safe house. After the war basically destroyed most of the living world a lot of us got together for safety. Humans still run most cities and what is left of a government. So we created this, underground. We have a lot of people here, all races even some humans. We don't actively get into fights with humans but it's hard to avoid though.' I stopped. 'So, you are safe here?'

His eyes betrayed him, he was anxious. Smiling at him I laughed a bit. 'yes, I am pretty high up in the ranks, people respect me and I do try to stay out of trouble.' He huffed. 'sure, trying be the key word there.' i had to give him that, he knew i got in more trouble then most people would like.

After about half an hour Kita walked in,and breaking our comfortable silence, Killian tensed up and slowly pushed himself as far away from her as he could. 'Hello, I am sure Orion already told you who I am. I just need to give you a quick check up, is that okay?' she smiled sweetly, trying to keep him calm. His eyes flickered over to me and back to her. 'Do you want me to stay?' 'Outside the curtain.' I got up, squeezing his hand before releasing him and going behind the curtain Kita secured around his bed. I could softly hear her give him instructions, telling him what she was doing and how long it would take. He hissed a bit at one moment, restraining myself from not ripping away the curtain to go to him with difficulty. It took longer then i wanted. 'That was a lot easier now you are awake, thank you.' The curtain opened again and I did not wait to walk back to the bed. 'Seems like you are healing just fine, by the looks of it you should be back to normal within the week. I do need to do some more blood tests, but that can wait till later. Try to sleep a bit more.' Killian wouldn't look at her, head down and hands gripping the sheets. He was shaking slightly. 'Thank you Kita.' She smiled and walked away writing something down on a clipboard. Putting my hand on his shoulder I sat down behind him, pulling him against me and wrapping my arms around him. My head on his shoulder, I could feel his pulse. 'I'm here.' I murmured. 'Just close your eyes, sleep. I won't leave.' His head fell back, I adjusted so he was against my chest, his head in the crook of my neck. Letting us both fall back into the bed I grabbed him close, pulling the covers over him. He was out to the world, I found myself just staring for a while. He was in short sleeves now, showing his arms even more. Scars littered them, purple and white mixed together, but the dried blood was now gone. I ran my fingers over them softly, trailing up to his shoulders and neck my fingers stopped. The memory came back, the scar was thick, uplifted from the skin and hard to the touch. I must bother him, the skin next to it stretched as he moved. I found more scars the longer I looked. Realizing why he didn't want me around when Kita gave him a check-up. I wanted to see, I needed to. Sighing I dropped my hand and wrapped it around his waist. Burying my face in his hair. just taking pleasure in feeling him, it was relaxing me.
