Hajiya Najaatu sat on her prayer mat,the memory of her husband sweating furiously despite the split ac that was at its peak, making the room as cold as ice,he trembled terrifyingly on his king size bed. With all indications,he was not himself today, she thought.
The sight she saw got her wondering, what is wrong with her husband? What is happening? Has he been charmed? Harassed? Possessed?
Everything she could think of came to her mind. The sound of Naseem crying at the top of his lungs got her out of the trance she slipped into.
Before she could get up to check what was going on,Nasir, her nine years old son came running into the room, tears were streaming down onto his face.
She was not in the mood to deal with their daily unstoppable fights and quarrels, she has enough on her plate already.
"Mammy..." the boys cried.
She sighed and asked "wai miye ne yake faruwa? (What is happening?) "
"It's ya Nusaibah " he replied then immediately burst into another ear deafening cries and his younger brother followed suit. She has had enough of Nusaibah's intolerance behaviour, when is that girl going to grow up and leave a day without looking for anyone's trouble?
"Mtswe" mammy hissed. " je ka kira min ita, yanzu nan" (go and call her for me,now!)
Nasir left to call his sister leaving his younger brother crying unstoppablely and already disturbed mother.
What will she do to these children, can't they see the change in their mood? Don't they know how to leave in peace with each other? When will they learn? She wondered.
Minutes later, Nasir came running into his mother's well furnished bedroom, Naseem was already watching cartoon network as he has totally forgotten what happened earlier while his mother was folding her prayer mat and hijab near her off-white vanity table.
"Mammy,..."he called his mother's attention. "Mmm..." she mummured and went on with what she was doing but her mind was nowhere close to where her little boy stand.
"Wai baza ta zo bah (she said she won't come), she even hit me again and called me jaki (donkey) and she also said I am a cry baby " his voice shook as he complained further he was at the verge of tears.
"Kayi haquri, zan same ta anjima (sorry,I will meet her later) kaji ko mammy's good boy? " she pacifyingly said while ruffling his skin cut hair.
Hajiya Najaatu, walked out of the room an hour later with her boys trailing behind her. She had a different attire on and she looks beautiful in her maroon and white Ankara gown.
As usual, Nabiha has her face, eyes and mind glued to the plasma TV screen, while Nusaibah, the trouble maker and finder had hers glued to her iPhone 4s mobile phone.
The kitchen was spotlessly cleaned and the food warmers were separately and neatly kept on the marbled counter table in the middle of the kitchen. She knew only one person could clean, cook and do the dishes at the same time, that person she doesn't really fancy but that person tries her best to please her.
She knows that Nabiha will never do something like this,if she does, she goes the whole day complaining about it in short, the house will lose it peace and Nusaibah is too young to cook.
