I groan but smile to myself as Jason grabs my hand.
"What are you doing?" I ask, letting some annoyance slip into my tone as I toss my phone back onto my bed. I'm dying to know. He doesn't answer, just pulls me out the door of my empty cabin, Aphrodite's, and leads me toward the entrance to Camp Half-Blood. "Wait, Jason, where are we going?"
"It's a surprise!" He tells me for the umpteenth time. I smack his arm with my free hand and scowl at him, narrowing my eyes.
"Yeah, you said that. About a million times. But maybe you should have kept it a secret so I wasn't dying to know for the last two weeks." He laughs.
"I was building up the suspense," he justifies, grinning at me.
"You were killing me," I correct, reciprocating his smile. He laughs again. I like his laugh.
"Ah!" He yells, suddenly stopping.
"What?" I jump, startled.
"I forgot to tell you to pack!" He releases my hand and takes off running back toward my cabin.
"Jason!" I yell tiredly and start to jog after him, "why do I need to pack? Where are we going?"
"It's a surprise!" He shouts back. I sigh. Really?! I think. I didn't know.

I run into Piper's cabin and scan the room. It's empty and I can't tell which bunk is hers. Finally she enters, and seeing my confusion, she chuckles and heads to a particular bunk near the front of the room, where her phone is still sitting. Oh. I feel a little embarrassed that I didn't remember or look for her phone. Well I guess it makes sense that she's in the front because she is the senior counselor.
"They put me near the front so I can jump up and protect them if something attacks," she explains, referring to her siblings. "I'm like, the most violence-prone child of Aphrodite in the history of the world, according to them." She rolls her eyes. I laugh, but try to cover it up with a cough when she glares at me. I know I'm supposed to be a leader as a child of Jupiter but one glare from Piper freaks me out. Probably because what she said is true. She's not just another girly, looks-obsessed girl like every other daughter of Aphrodite. I smile. I'm lucky to have her.
"So," she says, bringing me back to the room, "why do I need to pack?"
"Uh, what do you not get about surprises?" I tease.
"Okay, okay, but I kinda need to know the general area where we're going or else I won't know what to pack," she tries. I contemplate that for a minute.
"Theme park," I say shortly. "We're going to a theme park for a few days." Her kaleidoscope eyes widen in surprise.
"Did you ask Chiron?" She questions. I nod. "He was okay with it?" She sounds surprised.
"Yeah, he said it was fine. Actually, he said it would be good for us to have a break," I reply. "Oh, and Percy and Annabeth are coming the day before we leave." She grins.
"Sweet!" She says excitedly, "Annabeth will love it!" I blow air out through my mouth and smile at her excitement. She always thinks about Annabeth. Piper pulls a suitcase off of the top bunk and unzips it. I watch as she throws a few pairs of jean shorts and three t-shirts.
"Is it a bad idea to wear this?" She points to her bright orange Camp Half-Blood t-shirt.
"Yeah, probably," I decide after a moment and look down at my own. "You never know, there's probably monsters around there looking for demigods." She nods understandingly.
"I'll meet you outside," she says, shooing me out the door.
