Last night saw me smiling,
Ah! Smiling.
Smiles were something new,
To those cold lips so blue.
Last night I had wonderful dreams,
A lonely heart suddenly reflected beams
Beams of happiness carefully woven,
From the sweet memories never forgotten.
Last night, I saw all I loved,
Waiting for me, waiting to be touched.
But they seemed just out of reach,
Like the unconquerable other end of a beach.
Last night, I felt seven seas,
Stood in the path of my happiness' keys.
An unruly, wild and dangerous sea,
Over which even birds are scared to fly free.
Last night, I relived my whole life,
It tore me apart, hurt me like a knife,
For all my glorious memories faded into a darker past,
Last night, as I breathed my last.
