13. From a Child

Take away toys from a child,
And she will cry.
Take away jokes from a child,
And she will sigh.

Take away sweets from a child,
And she will sadly mumble.
Take away friends from a child,
And she will fumble.

What did she do to you?
Why do you let her burn this way every day?
You scold her and call her defiant,
When will you understand that she is in pain?

Look into those dazed eyes,
Behind which she hides all her fears.
Search a little deeper,
And you will find an endless pool of tears.

For if you take away dreams from a child,
She will die
And if you take away love from a child,
She won't even say goodbye.
