The Unexpected

Status change

Just a caught-in-the-moment thing but she was slightly restless.This was the bad part of being a teenager.The reckless hormones escalating all the time. She got a call and didn't bother checking the caller ID.
"Hey Jen"
"Hey"
"Sorry.I know you're asleep but I really can't stop thinking about you"
Alright it was Nick. Ugh
"Nick!Nice to hear from you"
"Sure Angel. Sleep tight then"
"You too"
The next morning at around 8am, Jena's dad told her she'll return to Texas for a bit since Fred had already left. That was supposed to be great news but she felt bad.Jack,how would he take the news.After their encounter last night this wasn't helping.At about 1pm, she was at his place. He was with Ben,his cousin so she got into a heated conversation with Ben who left shortly after she arrived.It was just both of them and as usual she was eating pringles.They watched Ellen's show for a bit and at some point Jack just stopped watching and stared at her the whole time. She pretended not to notice then he blurted,"I really like you Jena".Something about that reminded her about Albert. She hadn't expected it at that point.True they had to talk about them but this was... Did it really matter?
She was sure the feeling was reciprocal to a degree.It was too soon but it was one of those risks she knew she would rather die than not take.He had consumed her with his striking personality in a way no-one  else had in her 17 years of being. Not much but it was quite a while.She noticed Jack was still staring with what seemed to be anxiety.He further went on to tell her he knew it was reciprocal but she was holding back.He said he didn't care about what's holding her back because he's different."Jena, please be mine." She was at a loss of words.He held her hand and looked so breath-takingly deep into her eyes.It was getting intense and she didn't care if they were going too fast or if she would get hurt again.Well,she did care a little but something about him signified
safety. She managed a nod but he would have none if it.
"Talk to me baby"he insisted
She smiled a timid smile."Yes"
"Yes?"He was so annoying
"Yes wanna be yours"
He jumped,screamed and hugged her.A long,warm hug which expressed all the words they couldn't say.Jack hadn't told her about Thelma. He procrastinated to the nearest future not wanting to ruin the moment.When they were calm, she told him about her upcoming trip.He obviously wasn't happy but she promised she wont be long. That day, they did a whole lot of stuff, talking,ice cream fights,pillow fights,laughing at the most silly of things and shopping at the mall before Jena went home.
She assembled her stuff for the trip but a feeling of melancholy kept lurking at her.She was leaving her boyfriend.Her status could no longer be single or it's complicated.She smiled lost in thoughts till she remembered she had to inform Nick of her trip back. If only if he knew about Jack. It looked like they had a lot to talk about.Skeletons in the cupboard maybe?
Fred and Sia were doing fine.Mia,however was a flirt.Jena always laughed at her ordeals.They were more of sisters than best friends.Despite their being close, they differed in opinions and lifestyles. Nick had told Jena about some girl who'd been bugging him. They laughed so hard when Nick mimicked her.She felt guilty.She wasn't doing anything wrong but things had changed.Nick would have to know soon that was the sad reality.His reaction was what's feared but she was with Jack.He had to accept  that.She completed her preparations for the trip.
