Hours and hours of trudging through the forest of crooked trees towering above me got me nowhere. So, despite my first instinct, I decided to wade my way through the trees back to a narrow cobbled path.

The path led to a small but inviting cafe. That was designed to look like a gingerbread house. I could smell the sweet smell of cake and coffee. My stomach growled, urging me to go in.
I persuaded myself that if I went into the café no one would know that I was a criminal.

I walked in and immediately regretted it...

The moment I stepped into the café, everyone glared at me. In the midst of my hunger, I had forgotten, that in a world where all that mattered was external beauty, I looked horrendous. My shirt and jeans were torn with mud and blood splattered across them both. I wasn't wearing any makeup either and my hair was covered in mud and leaves.

A thousand faces, with perfect skin, hair and clothes frowned at the sight of me. Some even shook their heads in disbelief whilst muttering to themselves.

How could I have been so stupid?

I knew I wasn't wanted so I turned on my heel to walk out of the miserable café before I drew too much attention to myself when...

"Wait," Someone cried. I whipped around facing a young boy. He had glassy hazel brown and matching brown locks that fell against his forehead. He was about a head taller than me and had a small smile forming on his flawless skin. Everyone, including myself, just stared at him.

Instead of returning the smile, I continued to stare before finally saying, "What did you say?"

I don't know why I said that because I knew exactly what he said.

"I said, wait," he replied before taking a tentative step towards me. I took a step back.

"Why?" Everyone just stared at the scene playing out in front of them. Probably wondering why this stranger made an attempt from stopping me from leaving.

"Well, you clearly wanted something to eat or drink," he replied offering a small smile.

I just stared at him in disbelief.

What is this guy doing?

"I did but I'm obviously not wanted here," I paused to gesture to all the other people in the cafe who were still staring. "I'm an outcast here. Hated by everyone because I'm not like them, so... just leave me alone." I turned on my heel and grabbed the smooth metal handle of the door before stopping to say," A word of advice, don't go looking for trouble."

With that, I stormed out before he could reply. It wasn't long before thoughts plagued my mind once again.

Why did he have to do that? It's obvious that I'm on the run, you could see me from a mile away because of my ripped clothes and my blood-splattered jeans.

I walked back down the path, taking random turns as I tried to get as far away from the cafe as possible. The sky had begun to darken and I still had no idea what I was going to do. I wanted to make a difference but how? There was no way anyone would listen to me.

Out of nowhere, someone yanked me backwards by grabbing my backpack. I stumbled falling at the sudden tug of my bag. My mind raced with all the possibilities of who this could be. Was it Mrs Young and Mrs Coal, no it couldn't be not when I was covered in mud and dirt. Someone from the cafe, no why would anyone leave their food to chase after me when all they wanted was for me to go. It had to be a stranger... yes most probably.

I was about to shout for help when a hand clamped around my mouth. I wriggled and squirmed trying to break free but that was no use. Now you may think that I just stopped struggling and lost hope if you did then you don't know me at all because I am no quitter.

I bit my captor's hand with as much force as I could muster. Blood oozed out and stained my teeth.

"Owww!" they yelled, pulling their hand back. I broke free from their grasp dropping my bag in the process. Wait I recognised that voice. No way! I whipped around revealing that my captor was, in fact, the boy from the cafe.

" You!" I cried in disbelief.

He edged backwards, his eyes widening in fear as I stepped closer.

"Why on Earth would you do that? I knew you were annoying from the way you acted in the cafe but I didn't think you were some psychopath kidnapper!" My breath was ragged. My face had flushed a deep red. Anger pulsed through my veins. I was glaring at him in such a way that he nearly fell backwards." Who do you think you are? Going around trying to kidnap people. Well if you were looking to sell me to the government as I'm obviously on the run, then you picked a fight with the wrong person." My face burned with frustration, anger and wait what...guilt.

I had set out to show people what true beauty really is and here I was shouting at a 13-year-old just like me.

No, he's just tried to kidnap me, I have the right to be angry...right?

"I'm sorry," I blurted out.

"What!" he exclaimed, his eyes filled with disbelief. He rose from the ground. "You really are weird, I just tried to...I don't even know what I was doing, and your the one who's saying sorry?"

"Yes," I said bluntly as I glanced at his utterly confused face. The wind whistled in my ears. It pushed wisps of my hair into my face. I brushed them off as I grabbed my bag.

He continued, "Well please don't think I'm a... what did you say?"

"A psychopathic kidnapper," I interjected. I laughed at the thought. I don't know why but he laughed along.

"Yeah that. Well I'm not, I just needed to get your attention, seeing as you wouldn't listen to me."

Now it was my turn to stumble back in surprise.

What now? Should I listen to what he has to say or should I walk away?

Note to reader:

Sorry, I didn't update in a while it's because I  had a lot of homework and revision to do since I had exams which I then had to take and it was really stressful. Anyway, I'm back on the flow of writing and have a few twists up my sleeve.

But I have a question I would like to ask you, Should my character trust this mysterious boy and what would you do in her position? Would you stay and listen or walk away?

Hmm. ..I'm not really sure what I would do but leave your answers in the comments I'd love to know your thoughts.

I hope you are having a lovely day and if not I hope this chapter made you smile.
