Before he was able to get over the shock of my actions, I bolted towards the door. My wrists painfully slammed against the golden handle. I ignored the spark of pain and ran as fast as my burning legs could carry me.

There weren't any guards outside his door in this secluded area of the castle and that all played out to my advantage. I could feel my heart slamming against the walls of my chest my throat was on fire as I pulled as much oxygen into me.

I heard the faint yell of my name but I wasn't going to stop. I couldn't stay here any longer I needed to get back to Kai and Xavier. My heart thundered each beat falling in sync with the pounding of my feet against the marble floor.

"Eleanor you can't run from this," his voice echoed.

Though I could hear the strain in his voice, it was only a faint murmur in my ears blocked out by my own thoughts of my brother. I needed to see him before I decided on what to do and Xavier after all the loss he had faced it would break him if he was left in the dark. His cynicism that concealed itself behind a smile, always too short of his eyes, would come back. He would think that whatever horrors these monsters would put me through would be his fault just because he couldn't convince me not to go.

I sharply turned but I could hear the skid of shoes behind me. A loud screech permeating my thoughts and reminding me that he was still chasing after me. I willed him to give up to see me as a lost cause but it did not escape me that he could have easily called the guards.

No, I couldn't give him the benefit of a good conscience for all I knew he was just another ploy to gain my trust. But yet the look in his eyes, the burning rage that filled his voice when he saved me from his father-

There was no time for this. I turned again. Corridor after corridor after corridor. I tried to find something familiar but all the elaborate intricacies of the castle- it's identifying features had been torn apart by the rebellion. My heart sunk as I realised how impossible it would be to escape this labyrinth.

Blindly I ran, and I ran my heart racing faster and faster but the likelihood of escape became less and less feasible. There were too many passageways and corridors to navigate an escape.

Pounding rang in my ears as I turned slightly to see his silhouette racing towards me. I turned sharply into another corridor only to be met with a dead end. Nausea filled my stomach as my mind raced with all the possibilities of what would become of me. I had attempted to escape which could give the leader all the more reason to kill me on the spot.

Frantically, I analysed the are attempting to find anything that would aid me in my escape.

There's was nothing but cracked marble and glass shards littered around me. Driven by my shaking limbs I grabbed one of the larger pieces of glass ignoring the press of the sharp edge against my palm.

Laboured breaths alerted me to Kayden's arrival pushing me to be on guard and holding up the piece of glass.

As soon as he rounded the corner, I yelled, "Stay back,"

He halted, eyes widening at the scene before him with my makeshift weapon pointed right at him.

He was strangely calm as he placed his hands out in front of him an indication that he wasn't planning on making any sudden movements.

"Ok," his voice was soft decievingly so.

I had yet to think of what I planned to do now that I was the one in power. My eyes flitted down the endless corridors.

"How do I get out of here?" my voice was urgent, aware of the blood trickling down my palm.

"You know I can't tell you that,"
