Eleanor
I watched from afar.
His shoulders were hunched and the deathly parlour of his skin had become more prominent day by day. I didn't know what to say to him. He hasn't eaten properly in days and each time I managed to coax him to eat something he would barely touch the food. Only consuming what was needed for him to survive.
We needed her more than she ever knew. I needed her and part of me was angered at her rash decision to leave us all behind.
What had it all amounted too?
More chaos than before.
She had opened their eyes sure but what she wasn't able to do was help them see. She left far too quickly for that.
Rose was always guarded about herself even when we were children. The only time she would really open up was when she was talking about Xavier-about a new word that she had learnt from him.
Back then, I hadn't understood her need to read, to explore, learn: absorb every morsel of information she could but now I do.
Now I understand that all that knowledge that she had accumulated made her smart. Made her able to survive all the torment of the Queen.
Torment I could not withstand.
I caved whilst she didn't.
I shattered, my glass remains repeatedly cutting into my heart reminding me that the Queen would pay for everything she had put me through.
I shudder at the memory of her holding a knife at the base of Kai's throat. His tear-filled eyes will forever be engraved into the walls of my mind. The consequence of what would've happened if I had not agreed to lure Rose into the Queen's trap but she was much smarter than that.
I will always feel the burn of guilt twisting itself in my heart because I had known this would happen. I had led my only friend to her inevitable demise but she...she was much smarter.
She knew as well. She knew that the moment Xavier had introduced the new chemicals she would be the test subject.
She beat them to the punchline.
She destroyed everything including Xavier's already torn heart the moment the needle touched the skin of her throat.
Rose was unique in a way that was hard to explain to anyone who had never met her. The way she thought and questioned would always be different to everyone else because she had something they didn't she had the power of words.
The most brutal weapon of all and she had used them to save some and change others forever.

"Xavier," I spoke quietly and softly as to not startle him. He turned slowly his eyes still so dull and drained. Dark circles making their mark underneath them. He didn't care though, I doubted he had ever cared about his appearance despite it being the foundation of the King and Queen's rule.
"Any news?" his voice was barely a croak and laced with melancholy.
I knew exactly what he had been asking about. The whereabouts of what used to be his parents before he emancipated them in front of the entire nation, relinquishing his title as Crown Prince.
I shook my head a shaky breath leaving my lips, "Not of the Queen's whereabouts no."
Anger flared in his eyes sparking a flame that grew larger and burnt his amber eyes until nothing but the darkness of his pupils remained...ashes of the extinguished fire.
"What do I do Eleanor?" the questions were the same every day I would go out into the rebellion to see the chaos that reigned and the true colours of people. Their forgotten morals trampled in the same place where their integrity and dignity lay.
Clans had been created. It was now a power vacuum.
In a vacuum there was no air...none of us could breathe. We were all suffocating.
We were all trapped in this power vacuum.
We were all trying to break free.
