I hid myself in a corner of the cafeteria, hoping and praying I wouldn't run into Asher. Is the universe seriously trying to make my life miserable? All four classes that I've had up until now have Asher in them and I just keep happening to sit in his seat every damn time! He looks like he's about ready to kill me!!

I took a small bite of my greasy pizza and decided the food wasn't worth eating. I tossed my food away in a nearby trashcan and sat back in my corner. I officially hate my school. I hate the students, especially Asher.

"Hello!" A quirky voice chirped. I looked up to the source. There stood a girl with natural blond hair with light pink dye at the tips. Her eyes were a mysterious light gray. "I'm Lana! Nice to meet you!" She held out a hand to me. I hesitantly reached up and shook hands with her, noticing that she kept her nails filed down and rounded.

"What's your name?" She asked as she pulled her hand back and sat down beside me.

I faced her completely. "Reece."

"Hi, Reece!" She beamed at me, her teeth slightly crooked. "I noticed you were all alone over here; care to explain why?"

I sighed through my nose. "I have made an enemy and I'm trying to hide from him."

"Him?" She questioned. "Him, who?"

"Asher Kutcher." I replied.

Her eyes widened. "No way!" He's obviously the talk of the school. "How'd you manage that?!" She scooted closer.

I sighed. "I have him in my first four classes, and I think the universe hates me. Each time, I got to class first and I always ended up in his seat. And to top it all off, I caught him with a fake blond as she went to town on him as he just stood there right in the middle of the hall."

Lana curled her lip up and scrunched her nose in disgust. "Okay, ew... I honestly thought he dumped that whore two weeks ago."

"Apparently, he didn't." I picked at my nails.

Lana quickly changed the subject. "Can I just say one thing?"

I looked up at her. "Go ahead."

"I love the color of your eyes!" She suddenly blurted out. "They remind me of the ocean!"

"Really?" I asked.

She nodded vigorously. "Absolutely! Wish my eyes were like that..."

"Yours remind me of incoming storm clouds." I said. "I love the rain."

She grinned from ear to ear. "Me too! Especially when I'm walking through the forest near here!"

I perked up instantly at that. "There's a forest near here?" How come I was never aware of this?

"Yeah! About twenty miles from here!" She pulled her phone out and tapped the screen a couple times. "In fact, they say it's supposed to rain later in the day. Wanna walk in the rain with me after school?"

I smiled, finally liking have at least a friend to be hang out with. "I'd love to."

She giggled. "Great! Meet me at the strip mall about three miles west of here at four." She tapped her phone a few more times before sticking it back in her pocket.

I smiled. "I'll be there."

"Yay!" She threw her arms in the air and fist pumped the air. "Oh my gosh, we're gonna have so much fun getting to know each other more! Hey, do you mind if I bring another person along?"
