Reece

Shelbie and Rorie helped me light candles when the sun started to set. So glad I had huge candles to light. They have a bright flame.

"Reece..." Shelbie complained. "Why can't you just call your land lord and have him turn the power back on?"

I sighed. "Shel, he and his family went away for the weekend. They're going to be back early tomorrow morning. My power will be back on by noon tomorrow.." She grumbled under her breath and lit my last candle. We now had enough light to see by.

I picked up a candle by its stand and walked to my room. I took my phone off the charger and nearly dropped the candle. I had ten missed calls and twenty messages, the most recent message being five minutes ago.

Each missed call had a message after it. I placed the candle on my night stand and listened to each message. All were from Asher. The first three were of him threatening to hurt me if I didn't answer him. The forth and fifth messages sounded a little desperate and concerned, but he was still threatening.

The next three sounded less threatening and he wasn't swearing that he'd kill me for what I said. He was wondering why I wasn't answering his calls. The last two made my heart drop. He sounded very worried and very fearful as to why I wasn't answering his calls.

I deleted all my voice mails and went to look at the texts. Just as I did so, a text from an unknown number appeared on my screen.

Unknown number: I'm coming over

I stared at the message, confused. I quickly read through my messages. Half were from Lana's number, each sounding like Asher. The other half, plus the one I just received, were from the unknown number. They, too, sounded like something Asher would say.

Then it clicked. Asher's coming to my house!! He knows where I live! Crap!! I quickly locked my window and ran to the living room, locking the window in my room and in the spare bathroom above the shower.

I locked my back door and the window in the kitchen.

"Rorie, help me close the living room window!" I called to him. "The damn thing is stuck!"

"Reece, what's wrong?" He asked, confused.

Shelbie raised an eyebrow at me. "Yeah, Reece. We need that window open to keep the air circulating."

"But Asher is coming over! He knows where I live!" And Rorie was soon beside me, helping me get the window shut. After five minutes of struggling, we finally got it shut and locked tight.

I flopped in the couch and sighed in relief. "There..." I blew out the candle next to me, plummeting this area into complete darkness. The other two got the message and began blowing out the other candles.

Something hard landed in my lap. I picked up the rectangular object, my finger hitting a button. The harsh, bright of my phone made me squint. I turned down the brightness and read what was typed there.

Rorie: absolute silence, right?

Me: yup. have your phone on the lowest brightness and have it on silent. I sent that message to both Shelbie and Rorie. Soon, both of their phones were giving off soft glows. They sat on the couch next to me and we sat in absolute silence.

I got a message from Shelbie via group text.

Shel: its quiet...

Rorie: too quiet...

Me: lol

Rorie: so, when's Asher supposed to get here?

Me: idk...
