"So, are you...?" I met Asher's gaze and my heart ached. He looks so heart broken, like he's about to lose a whole other side of him and just die inside. My head was telling me to reject, my heart to accept, and my reason to accept and jump into his arms and stay there for eternity.

Am I going to reject him?

Yes.

No.

Maybe...

I don't know!

This has to be the hardest decision I've ever made. If I say yes, I'm committing myself to him, something I swore would never happen again. If I say no... I don't even know what will happen to Asher or I. From the looks of it now, he just may die, not literally, but close enough.

I opened my mouth to speak, but was interrupted by a knock at the door.

"Asher?" A voice asked. "Hey, bro, can I come in?"

Asher cleared his throat and stood. I scrambled out of the way and hid myself in the corner of the room. "Yeah, come on in." The door opened, and a guy stepped in. He, in some way, resembled Asher slightly.

"So," He clapped his hands together. "Where is she? I heard she was here and I wanted to- hey, Ash. You doing alright?"

Asher quickly swiped his arm over his face. "Yeah, yeah I'm fine. What d'ya want, Ty?"

He raised an eyebrow, but let his question drop. "I was just wondering if your mate is in here with you. Where is she? I wanna meet her."

"She's... she's in the bathroom right now." He said.

"Oh... Then I'll just stay here until she gets back!" Then he promptly plopped him down in a chair. "You know, Asher, you can't lie to me. I can smell her scent. She's in the corner there." He pointed over to me and I tried to make myself as small as possible.

Asher groaned and fell the ground in front of the new guy. "I messed up, Tyson." He said. "I moved too fast and shifted in front of her."

"You did what?!" Tyson sat up straighter.

"I was afraid I was gonna lose her! I didn't get the chance to try and explain everything, so I shifted, hoping it would make sense to her! But... I think it had the opposite effect..." His voice trailed off at the end.

"So... she..."

"No, I didn't get an answer yet..." Asher lifted his head to glare at Tyson. "You chose the time she was going to answer me to come in!"

Tyson flinched. "Sorry, bro... I was just excited... excited that my brother finally found his mate..."

"I don't even know if that's going to happen..." My heart thudded painfully at seeing him this down and heart broken.

"Let me speak with her." Before any of us could move, he had me by my arm and outside the room. He stood me in front of him. "Hello, my name is Tyson and I'm Asher's brother. I understand you're supposed to be Asher's mate, right?"

I nodded slowly. "So I've been told..."

"That's good, that's good..." He rubbed his hands together. "Okay, here's the situation. My brother, Asher, in there is experiencing a tough and difficult time in there right now. Let me say one quick thing: his wolf abandoned him roughly three years ago when he had given up on finding his mate. Just recently, he's perked up and I knew he'd found his mate."

I cast my gaze to the floor. "But I don't know if-"

"I'm not finished." He cut me off. "You see, if a wolf is rejected by his mate, he experiences so much pain, he wishes to die, and in some cases, they do. Imagine that you are being ripped in half; that's what it's like when we've been rejected; it's something we all fear. A whole part of us dies and we can never be whole. I don't want to see that happen to my younger brother. It would pain me as much as it pains him. Will you reconsider?"
