Noah: hey babe;)

Me: hey cutie :)

Noah: wanna go to a mixer tonight?

Me: cant, GNO tonight.

Noah: ...

I sighed. Noah didn't know what no meant. He was always trying to get me to go to places and do crazy things, but most of the time I said no. When I did, it was an endless argument. But we still stayed together, since we were everyone's favorite couple.

I walked down to Forever 21 at the outlet mall where I was going to meet a couple of friends. My flip flops made a loud smacking noise on the sidewalk as I was walking, while sipping on a blackberry smoothie. I could hear waves crashing against the shore, seagles calling out to one another, and people chatting. The sun was beating down my bare back.

Yup, just another typical summer day in Destin, Florida.

I felt the back left pocket of my jean shorts buzz, telling me that I got a text from someone. I knew it would be Noah. I started walking while looking at my phone.

Noah: cmon Jes. cancel with the girls and have some fun with ur boyfriend every once in a while.

I felt bad. I do spend a lot of time with the girls instead of Noah. I started to reply.

Me: boyfriend? we're just dating. and tomorrow night? I hate canceling plans last minute.

Just as I was about to press send, I ran into what I thought was a wall. The "wall" started falling, me falling on top of it as well. When I hit the ground I heard an "oomph" come out from under me. I quickly got up. I had ran into another person, and my smoothie was all over their face.

"Blackberry?" I heard the person say. The voice was deep and I could tell it was a guy.

"Yeah. I am so sorry! Let me clean you up," I said. I lent him a hand, but he got up on his own just fine. He was only a couple of inches taller than me. I looked around for something to clean his face off.

"Thanks, but I got it," he said. He took the hem of his shirt and brought it up to his face so he could wipe it off. When his face cleared up, I got a better look at him.

His hair was dark brown, and his eyes were a blue-green color. His skin was tan, like he spent a lot of time outside in the sun. (Which wasn't exactly out of the ordinary for someone who lived in Florida.) He was wearing a navy blue tank top and light brown khakis with worn out tennis shoes. He looked pretty hot to be honest. I quickly brushed the thought away.

"Sorry," I said again. I picked my phone off the ground.

"You kinda already said that," he said. I blushed. "But don't worry about it. It was my fault."

"Oh no. If I hadn't been texting and walking at the same time-"

"He's over there! Get the kid, quick!" I heard someone yell. I looked behind the guy and saw two police men running towards me. No, towards us.

"Sorry to cut our time short love, but I gotta dash," the guy said quickly. Just like that, he was sprinting away, already a block away when the police ran past me. I was a little stupified, until I felt my phone buzz again.

Liz: where are u jes? We've been waiting for fifteen minutes!

Me: sorry! I got held up on the way, ill tell u the dets when I get to ya.

I pressed send and started walking towards Forever 21 again. I was still trying to figure out why the police were chasing after him by the time I got to Forever 21. Once I saw Liz and Aimee though, all of my thoughts dissapeared. I was ready for a night of fun, and not worrying about what Noah thought.
