Josh's POV

My lungs burned as I suppress the urge to cough, my strides keeping up with Simon's as we push our way through the thick underbrush of the forest.

Our breaths were heavy and hard, my legs beginning to tingle with numbness, along with pain. The bags on our back made similar rubbing and clicking noises against our soaked uniforms, our torches bouncing up and down within the pocket it was held in.

"S-Simon." I sputter, taking a look over my shoulder, back the way we came.

"Y-yeah." He exasperates, and I feel my legs slow to a deadly stop, silence falling as Simon stops.

"L-.. Look." I deadpan, my breathing erratic and shallow, but quiet.

His warm presence was soon next to mine, my eyes tearing up as the distant sounds of gunshot, dogs barking and hollering snapped me back to our, now very dangerous, reality.

"We need to keep going." He sputters, interlocking our fingers, his icy against mine, before tugging me along.

It took alot of effort to tear my eyes off the torches shining on the roof of trees, but I managed, retaining the same pace as Simon.

Every branch cracking beneath our feet brought my anxiety closer to its peak, the forest remaining eerily silent as we ran other than our heavy breaths and the ground beneath our feet.

I shut my eyes as I tried to regulate my heaving, wishing to just escape.

//

"There!" He whisper-shouts, causing my heart rate to spike as he stops immediately.

I feel all the air leave my lungs as his strong arms halts the momentum of my body, my knees weak with fear and numbness.

"Josh.. Get-" He is cut off by a sharp growling, my eyes squeezing shut as adrenaline floods through my veins.

"The knife!" He screams, yet I stay frozen.

Josh.

The beast slowly moves closer and closer, its teeth shimmering with saliva as the moonlight hits its greyish white fur coat, its strong legs pulsing with muscle as it slowly approaches us.

"Josh, get. The. Knife." Simon deadpans, his voice shallow with fear.

But I stay still.

The wolf, whose eyes were intensely locked with mine, seemed to reflect human eyes. Furrowing my brows, I feel my legs move forward, my hand reaching out to touch the wolf.

"Are you fucking cra-" His sentence was cut short, his body releasing a high pitched groan, causing me to jump, turning around quickly.

My eyes blur as I see the knife retract from his
stomach, Simon's mouth open to the sky, his eyes glazed over ever so slightly, crimson dripping down his chin.

The owner of the knife steps out-

Shannon.

"Josh." A strong voice echoes behind my ear, jumping around to see what was touching my side.

"You killed me, you killed him. Now its your turn." Callum hisses, his mouth full of fangs and sharp teeth of the wolf, his hand clasping around a sword as its tip protrudes my skin.

An immense pain fills my body as he twists and turns the blade, my knees collapsing to the ground, my head and arms falling back as my shoulder relaxes, and my mouth drops open.

//

"Josh!" Simon shouts, my eyes shaken open by his arms forcefully moving my body back and forth, his breathing as heavy as mine.

I slowly sit up, my entire body aching as I flash my head around, observing the unfamiliar room around me.

"Wh.." My words are cut off by my heavy breathing, Simon relaxing next to me.

"Holy shit I thought you died." He chuckles at his words, though it was a chuckle of relief.

He sniffles slightly, catching my attention as I turn and look towards him. He wiped the tears from his cheeks with haste, sniffling once again.

"What happened?" I mumble, swallowing heavily as my throat was parched.

I reach into my bag, that was laying on the ground next to me, grabbing the canteen of water and pressing the cold metal to my lips, the icy water sliding perfectly down my throat, soothing it.

"I-I don't know.. You just- you just fell to your knees a-and your neck snapped back and you were m-muttering words a-and-"

"Hey, hey no no, its okay my love.. Hey." I reach out, grabbing his arm and tugging the flustered boy towards me, his bum resting against my leg as I wrap my arm around his frame, pressing my lips to his neck.

"Its okay, baby I'm here and okay." I soothe, my hand rubbing the span of his back, his strong muscles in knots as I continue to rub them out.

"Y-your mumbling was s-so scary, I d-don't even feel safe anymore." He chokes out, his crystal blue orbs meeting mine, his eyes bloodshot and cheeks flushed.

The sunlight was flickering through the trees, reflecting off the ever receding snow, his eyes shimmering with fear and sadness, fatigue.

"Hm?"

"You.. You were muttering, 'They're coming.'"
