It's the end of another day of work, everyone is leaving the office and I curse myself for losing track of time at lunch. Gemma took me shopping with the excuse that she needed a new pair of shoes and some jeans for work, assuring me that it would be quick. Well, it isn't a surprise that it was everything but a quick shopping, we got way too excited and started to try a lot of clothes, even I bought a few things. I just couldn't resist and when we realized we were almost one hour late for work. That's why I'm gonna have to stay in the damn office to finish my article, otherwise Robison will kill me if she ever knows I didn't finished it in time because I was shopping with another co-worker. I look at Gemma and she is already grabbing her bag and getting ready to leave, dressing her cardigan, since it's raining like crazy outside. London weather what can we do?
"So, are you really staying?" Gemma asks me.
"I have to. I wish I could go home but I really have to finish this. But don't worry, I'm almost done."
"Just don't get to catch up with work, ok? London is a little dangerous at night and I really don't want anything to happen to you." She looks at me with concern in her face.
"Gemma I will be fine, don't worry. I'll call you when I get home. Promise." I say smiling.
"Ok. Well I'm going home now. I'll be waiting for the call, young lady." She says giving me a threatening look.
"Ok mum." I say smiling, watching her leave.
I return to finish writing my article and I immediately pass to correct any errors and change a few things until it's perfect. When everything is done I save it and turn off the computer. I start grabbing my things to leave the office when I look to my phone clock and see it's almost 9 pm. Ok I've been here for two hours and I didn't even realize it. I make my way to the tube, I'm so desperate to get home, have a warm bath and get in bed, I'm so tired. When I get out of the tube I start walking in the direction of my building, it's not to far but I still have to walk a few blocks. The streets are empty and it's really dark outside, any other person would be scared to walk on the streets this late but I'm different, I always liked to go for a walk at night because it's the most peaceful time of the day, were you can have some peace and relaxing moments for yourself. Something that you don't have during the day in London. I'm brought back from my thoughts when I hear some noise behind me. I instantly look behind me to see if someone was there, I don't see anything. Ok, maybe I should hurry to get to my flat, Gemma's warning ringing in my head. It must have been a cat or something, don't freak out Mary, you're almost there. My senses are in high alert, that's when I start hearing footsteps behind me, I decide to just keep walking and don't look back, trying to stay calm. When I see the door of my building I let out a relieved breath, getting in and only then I look to the street looking for the person who was following me and what creeps me out more is that I don't see anyone, the street is totally empty. Maybe it was just some pervert that didn't had enough time to try anything.
I make my way to my flat looking in my purse for the keys. Why every time I'm looking for something in this fucking bag I never found it? I'm already in my front door and I still didn't found my keys yet, they must be here somewhere, I throw the things inside my purse on the floor and start looking but they aren't there. Omg did I just left my keys in the office? This can't be happening right now, for fuck sake. I know Hanna is not home because she is working, my only option is to call Katia. I grab my phone and dial her number. It rings five times and goes straight to voicemail. This isn't happening, she must be at her show at the academy tonight and I'm pretty sure she is going to celebrate after, with her colleagues until tomorrow morning, like always. Fuck my life, where the hell I'm gonna sleep now? My only option is to call someone to change the lock of the door, but I don't know anyone here in London who can do it. Or I can go to a hotel, but I'm too scared to walk alone not after what happened a few minutes ago. I'm grabbing my things from the floor when an idea comes to my mind, I look at his door wondering if I should knock or not. I'm gonna so regret this, but he is the only option I have to call someone to come here to change the lock, he must know someone, right?
