I place my phone on the sink counter before putting my face in my hands. I feel hot and my heart is racing. I sit on the side of the bath tub and sulk. I was wrong to assume that he was only there to see Claudia. He's been gone nearly a day and things are already a mess without him here.

He shouldn't have jumped to conclusions about last night. I didn't even mean to spend the night here. I consider swallowing my pride and calling him again, but the chances of him answering his phone are very little. I can hear Liam's footsteps outside of the door, but I don't make a sound. I'm too embarrassed to reappear and my eyes are tear stained.

"Jen," Liam calls from the other side of the door, "are you alright?"

Stop crying.

"Yeah, sorry," I say standing up. "I'll be out soon," I say with a small sniffle.

"Okay. You're breakfast is on the table," he says and the patter of his footsteps fade back to the kitchen.

I rub my eyes and run the faucet. I splash my face with the cold water a few times. My heart is still going a hundred miles a minute, and the water isn't cooling me down at all. I turn the running water off and pat my face with a towel.

I tuck my hair behind my ears and take a big breath before exiting the bathroom. I fold my arms as I walk to the kitchen. Liam is sitting at the table, but when he takes acknowledge of me, he immediately stands.

"Hey, I made you a new batch of eggs because your other ones were getting cold," he says pointing to the fresh eggs sitting on the plate.

"You didn't have to," I say moving towards the table.

"I wanted to," he smiles and sits takes his seat again.

"Thanks," I respond as I sit down across from him.

He's also made bacon and poured me a glass of orange juice.

"So I'm guessing that was Josh, huh," he says taking in a mouthful of eggs.

"Um, yeah. But I don't really think we'll be talking much anytime soon," I say before taking a small sip from my orange juice.

"Hey, did you answer my phone last night?" I ask him.

"Yeah, Josh was calling and I didn't want him to think you were ignoring him," he responds.

"Oh," I nod. Anger stirs inside me. If he has just let the call go to voicemail, we wouldn't have this problem.

"Sorry if I made things this way," he says sympathetically.

"Don't worry about it," I huff. I don't want to talk about this, especially with Liam. I know it's not really his fault, but my selfish brain won't stop me from thinking that he is part of the blame.

We eat our breakfast in silence. Liam shifts in his seat every now and then. The conversation with Josh made me lose my appetite, so I end up picking at my food.

Liam stands up and takes his plate to the sink. I stab at my eggs with my fork once more before standing up and joining Liam by the counter.

"Thanks for the breakfast," I nod.

He takes my plate and rinses it underneath the water.
"I'm sorry if I've upset you," he says placing the plate in the dish washer.

"You didn't do anything," I shrug.

"I answered your phone last night. I should've woken you instead of answering, or let it go to voicemail. But I'm sorry," he nods again.

A wave a guilt washes over me as I watch Liam clean up his kitchen. He only meant well.
