Cassandra
--------------------My hand throbbed with pain from being impaled by the nail. Despite the pain, I gripped the bat like a vice and ripped it from the demon's hands. I tore my hand from the bat and gripped the handle firmly, swinging wildly, "back the fuck up you mangy pieces of shit!". Once they backed away from me, I stood in front of Naomi's unconscious body, "take another step towards her and I won't leave a trace of your existences!".
One demon grinned menacingly, "we won't take a step towards you, but they will".
Next thing I knew, three demons jumped on me from above, "damn it!". I grew out my claws and scratched the demons instantly, paralyzingly them and smacking them away with my serpent tail.
"Damn it, she's the lamia!" The demon growled. They both drew bloodstone swords and charged me, their black eyes full of hatred.
I smiled and froze their perception of time, making my way to the two demons across from me, "what to do, what to do?". I buried the bat in a demon's skull and gazed at the two overconfident monstrosities. I looked at my claws and impaled both of them in the brains. Before their souls left the bodies, I held one hand outward, "inmundissimi daemones, alio tempore manere". I grabbed both of their souls and frowned, "I have a message for you and your friends. Mess with my family and I will become the epidemic that wipes out all of your pathetic existences!". With those words said, I let the souls escape to the underworld and finished off the other demons.
Malik appeared with his weapons ready, "are the two of you okay?!".
I shifted back to my human form and tried to pick up Naomi, making pain shoot through my entire left arm, "yeah, they just got the jump on us and knocked her out".
He examined my hand, "holy hell, what happened?!".
As he healed the wound, I grunted in pain as veins reconnected and bones repaired, "tried to take me from behind with a spiked bat, but I caught it with my hand obviously. Wasn't that good of an idea on my part, but it saved our asses".
The angel smiled, "you're a real hero, Cassandra. I don't understand why you don't think of yourself as our equal".
That made me smile, "I'm nothing like you guys. You're a freaking war angel. Nay and Luke are freaking skull kid hybrids. Haru is Fenrir junior. Akame is an immortal and badass fox creature. Niko is a kickass cannibal. Nekoda is a half dragon princess. I'm just a half snake lady who isn't even immortal or powerful. I'm just the supportive side character to your stories".
He shook his head disapprovingly, "you're just as great as we are. Your insecurity just won't let you see that".
Once my hand healed, I slung Naomi over my shoulder, "I'm a realist, and I know I'm not as good as all of you".
Malik shook his head, "being a servant of god, I can see into your pure heart, and you're letting your insecurity get the best of you. Though it's more preferable than excessive pride, it pains me to see you put yourself down all the time. I may be able to heal physical wounds, but mental ones are those that I cannot heal and I wish I could help you all. Though physical pain hurts, it's only temporary, whereas mental pain can last forever". Wow, that took a depressing turn.
I shrugged and carried Naomi to the furniture aisle, sitting her in a chair, "us mortals deal with it all the time, no big deal".
He sighed, "I have heard many prayers during my lifetime, and one thing I noticed is that a high percentage of them are pleading to end their mental pain. The only things that you guys ask for is my companionship, help in combat, or other situations that benefit us all, why is that?".
