Prohibition of Listening to Backbiting

In the same manner as backbiting is prohibited, so is listening to it. Indeed, as some traditions indicate, the listener is like the backbiter in all the evil aspects so much so that this act is a grave sin carrying an obligation to seek forgiveness from the victim.

The Prophet (s) said: "The listener is one of the two backbiters." [Al-Fayd al-Kashani, Al-Mahajjat al-Bayda', vol. 5, p. 260]

Imam al-Sadiq (RA) narrated from the Noble Messenger (saw) who is once said to have forbidden both backbiting and listening to it.  Then he (saw) said: "Lo, whoever does a favour to his brother by refuting his backbiting upon hearing it in a gathering, God shall save him from a thousand kinds of evils in this world and in the Hereafter.  And if he does not do so despite his ability to refute it, on him shall be the burden of one who commits his backbiting seventy times." [Al-Hurr al-'Amili, Wasa'il al-Shi'ah, vol. 8, hadith no. 16316]

Among the more subtle forms of backbiting is when we listen to it with amazement. We express our amazement in order to make the backbiter more lively in his descriptions.  Our amazement when listening encourages the latter in his evil act. For instance,  one says, "Strange" or "Astaghfirullah!".  Or might say, "I didn't know that!" or "I didn't know he would do such a thing!" These expressions are meant to affirm the backbiter's statements and to encourage him to add something more.  These acts are in fact the Devil's artifices.  Surely, to affirm backbiting is also backbiting; as is to listen to it, or even to remain silent upon hearing it. [al-Shahid al-Thani's Discourse as quoted in Forty Hadith by Ayatullah Khomeini.]

The Prophet (s) said: "No fire is faster in consuming dry wood than gheebah in consuming a devotee's virtues." [Al-Mahajjat al-bayda', vol. 5, p. 264]

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Its been a year since I joined but believe it or not I had experiences and adventures more than I ever thought of.Alhamndullilah I made two new friends something that I thought I never will.I extremelly miss my family but these two never let me miss anyone.

Rammy and sammy what  can I say about them they are like angels sent down for me hahhaha yaah kynda.Their names are actually Ramla and Sameerah but with time spent together things change.Ramla leaves in Malaysia and samirah is a pakistani and most importantly both are niqabis.

They are just like Naseem Alhamndullilah.Ramla has a bubbly and a bouncy personality but knows her limits while Sameerah is very much the opposite. She is ladylike and elegant much more reserved but quite a wonderful girl when you get to know her.She is more strict when it comes to deen and most importantly her modesty.

I cant deny that I feel uncovered, weird and the odd one out when hanging out with them but not once did i tell them.I do adore niqabis and I wish to become one In sha Allah.Unfortunately in our society back at home its misused and when you adore yourself with one people talk ill of you.My uncles are against girls putting niqab and I cant imagine their furry seing me in one.

SubhanaAllah where is the world heading to?there is nothing like modesty its all about fashion.Who uses niqabs to cover up for their misdeeds??That has now become the trend preventing others to adore it for the right purpose. One who wears it now is taken wrongly even with the right intentions.
