~~~Daily Verse~~~
Jonah 1:3 (ESV)
"But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the Lord."
~~~My Thoughts~~~
I think the story of Jonah is easily discounted as a simple story for children, so I decided to dig deeper into this verse. It easily applies to us Christians every day. How many times do we flee from the presence of the Lord? God is continuously pursuing us, and inviting us into His presence but between busy schedules, things to do, and sometimes just not feeling like it, we flee from His presence. I know when I don't daily spend time with God, I end my day usually feeling frustrated, tired, and angry. We end up paying the price when we don't commune with God, just like Jonah did. It says he "paid the fare", so let me encourage you not to pay the price like Jonah. Instead, pursue at least one moment in God's presence today.
