Ecclesiastes 5:6-7 (MSG)

"Don't let your mouth make a total sinner of you. When called to account, you won't get by with "Sorry, I didn't mean it." Why risk provoking God to angry retaliation? But against all illusion and fantasy and empty talk There's always this rock foundation: Fear God!"

~~~My Thoughts~~~

I often hear my friends and fellow Christians say crude jokes, or mean remarks and then back it up with "I was just kidding." I used to live a life not realizing the power my words had, and I would say anything if someone thought I was funny. But this verse clearly states that we need to fear God, not fear as in He could strike us at any moment, but fear as in we love Him far more than to act in a way that wouldn't please Him. We need to remember that He isn't just our savior, but also the Lord of our lives. So everything we say and do should be a reflection of our respect and love for Him.
