The thing about heartbreak is that you have to move on. When you've been heartbroken as long as I have you almost feel a comfort when you're in that pain. It's what you're used to, I was used to the pain. Giving up that comfort was bittersweet. I was happy to move to a freer place, so I could feel a new lease of life. But it became a part of me. But what I didn't know was that when heartbreak comes back, it comes back with a vengeance.
-One week before-
"Are you serious?" Abby exclaims.
"It will work, I know it." I say as I start drafting what to say.
"What if it doesn't?" She asks and crosses her arms.
"I will narrow it down with the question and if it doesn't work we just pick someone else. Ok? Listen to this." I say and I clear my throat. "Hey guys, would one of you like a surprise from me? If you answer this question correctly I might just pick you! Ok here's the question: What is my favourite biscuit? Good luck!" I say and I raise my eyebrows at Abby.
"Why couldn't I just stay one more year in beauty school." She says and I smile.
"Because you love me. Now how does it sound?" I ask.
"Good." She says.
"Good because I already posted it." I say and I put my phone away.
"So how will this work again?" she asks.
"Only me, my dad, Adam and Daniel know my favourite biscuit, it's a long story and no one has asked me that in an interview. We look through the comments and he will be there. I know it." I say.
"But he is like ten or eleven." Abby says.
"Yes but he is addicted to video games and has rich parents, he will have social media. Plus I was his favourite person so he would check up on me, I doubt he has had the chance to forget me." I say and Abby rolls her eyes.
"Okay, but if it doesn't work I get to laugh." She says.
"Deal." I say and squeal.
"You take Instagram and twitter. I'll do the rest." I say and we get to work. We order pizza and Thai food. When Dan comes to do night shift we enrol him as well.
"Amy, it's almost three AM, can we carry on in the morning?" Abby asks and stretches. I sigh but my eye catches something.
"I think I found him, Facebook." I say and I click on his profile.
"Really?" she asks and crawls over to me.
"Yes, oh my god its him." I say and scroll through his pictures. "Bubble-gum ice cream, dimples, its him." I say.
"Wow, you were right, he is an Asian Adam." Abby says. I nod and jump up and down.
"His parents really are rich. Won't it look bad to surprise a rich boy?" Abby asks.
"I guess, you pick someone else then but make Dan do a background." I say and she nods. I manage to find his dad's profile and I message him as Daniel is a minor.
"I told you so." I said. I go to bed and Abbey joins me.
I wake up at noon to Abby's foot in my face. I check the time and see I have a response from Daniel's dad.
Dear Amy, I would like to thank you for selecting my son to get this prize. Unfortunately my wife and I wouldn't be able to attend and we would like to do so. Regards.
I reply as quickly as I can.
I understand, the prize can be received at any time you are comfortable with. The prize is two days with me in Los Angeles all expenses paid. If no time is convenient I am very willing to escort your son with security from anywhere in the world. Kindest regards.
Abby watches with me as the bubble pops up.
We are currently in Thailand. We will be stopping in England next weekend. My wife and I are travelling to Iceland that Monday and our son lacks our enthusiasm. Perhaps after meeting you my wife and I will agree but you have to understand there are no guarantees.
"He is a pain in the ass." Abby says I scoff.
"Yeah." I say
Of course. My PA will be in touch. Best regards.
I flop in the bed and sigh.
"Amy?" Adam asks from downstairs.
"I'm in my bedroom." I say and I hear him walk upstairs.
"What's this prize thing?" he asks.
"I have two weeks off starting tomorrow, I'm spending two days of it with two fans. Oh and believe me you want to be a part of it." I say.
"Ok..." he says and trails off.
"Good, well be packed for a trip on Monday. We're going to LA." I say and I smile at his confused face.
"Ok sure." He says.
"Are you not confused?" Abby asks.
"I've learnt to not ask questions." He says and walks out. I look at her and I hit her arm, she jumps and looks at me.
"Stop drooling." I say and she sighs. I message the second winner, a seventeen year old girl from New York. Abby gets permission visas and flights sorted and we go shopping.
"We're meeting him and his parents in two days." She says. I nod and pick out a dress. I go to the changing rooms and try it on. Adam has to wait outside which makes me and the shop assistants nervous. I walk out.
"You look amazing." Abby exclaims I spin and I like it as well.
"Yeah it's nice." Adam says. I smile and I get matching black shoes.
Two days pass quickly. I wake up and have a shower. It's Adams day off so the plan is coming together perfectly. I pack a small bag and I go back down south with Abby, Paul and Pablo. I smile with glee and Abby smiles at my happiness. We get to the address and Pablo knocks on the door.
"Yes?" a deep voice asks.
"Amy Write for Jonathan tuner." He says and the intercom hangs up. A young Asian looking woman opens the door, probably Daniels mum.
"Hello, welcome all of you." She says. I hug her and so does Abby. We sit down and Jonathan comes in.
"Hello." I say.
"Hello." He replies and I shake his hand.
"So, where is Daniel?" I ask.
"Oh, our nanny will be bringing him home any moment." The woman says.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't introduce myself, I'm Daniel's mother, Carol." She says and I smile. Just as the silence becomes awkward I hear keys jingle.
"Amy!"
