Leaning against the bar, I waved my arm up high to get one of the bartenders' attention. Most of them were located down on the far right where a multitude of people had gathered around the bar. Down by the left were only a few, serving as quick as possible, and I stood somewhere in the middle of the long bar; at this point, I was just waving for anyone to lay eyes on me.
Music was playing loudly, making it hard to hear any of the conversations next to me so I rested my elbow on the wooden counter and proceeded to place my cheek in my palm. Boredom was going to strike soon if I didn't get another drink in me; I vaguely remembered finishing the first.
I thought maybe taking a chance on a cute guy in a bar was a good idea; it seemed that the perfect opportunity had presented itself to me so effortlessly. With flashbacks of last night continuing to pop up in my head, it only made the mission to forget a top-priority and in that moment, Nick seemed to be the answer.
In the time we had begun to speak to each other, I had learned Nick was actually from Nevada and was on vacation with a few of his buddies in Vegas. He shared that he came down whenever he had time off of work; he worked in advertising for a company I had never heard of before. Must've been local.
He was cute and able to make me laugh so I figured maybe something could come out of it. Because of the constant traveling with the band, flings were usually my thing. Find a boy if we were staying for a few days, toy with him a bit until we were off to the next city. Relationships were never appealing enough to me; the last I had ever come close was back in high school, junior year.
But as I had watched Nick gush over the band's performance last year in Vegas, I saw the desire I had for him slowly dwindle away. I'd be lying if I said it hadn't happened in the past; normally, I'd shake it off and move on, maybe even find another guy to replace the previous with. But I couldn't help but get an intentional vibe from Kells as it all unfolded before me. When he began to entertain the conversation longer than needed to is when I got annoyed. The intention of introducing the two was to be friendly if I had decided to bring him back to the apartment, but after their interaction, I was annoyed with the both of them; Nick for letting his love for one of his favorite bands innocently consume him, and Kells for letting his ego get in the way of my fun.
"You don't look too happy," I heard. I glanced up and standing on the other side of the bar was a cute shaggy blonde; he had green eyes, tan skin and tribal tattoo sleeve on the upper half of his arm. He gave me a pearly smile that caused me to drop my arm flat on the counter and return the gesture.
"Is it that obvious?" I asked, letting out a sigh.
He shrugged, grabbing an empty glass. "I might have the perfect thing for you," he said, grabbing a large vodka bottle from the counter behind him and quickly pouring two shots into the glass. He then proceeded to fill the rest of the glass with soda and handed it over to me. I gave him a confused look but before I could speak, he spoke again. "Pretty girls get free drinks between four and six," he smirked.
I grabbed a straw, a smile making its way onto my lips. I caught a quick glimpse of the digital clock behind him hanging on the wall and then laughed. "It's only two," I said, furrowing my eyebrows together.
"Smart and pretty," he grinned. He shook his head toward me as a few people beside me tried to get his attention. "It's on me, babe," he said to me as he began to walk away toward the others calling for his assistance.
I laughed, swirling the straw in my glass. I took a long sip as I turned around toward the pool, still leaning against the bar. Ashleigh had migrated into the pool, where Dre, Rook, Ace and Baze were; it sounded like a good idea since the heat was only getting worse.
