I tossed and turned in bed most of the night. I didn't know how much time passed but I just couldn't fall asleep. My emotions were all over the place and they just wanted a release. But that could be dangerous since now I caused destruction with other emotions too. I didn't know what I was suppose to do. This curse was becoming more and more suffocating and I didn't know how long it would take before I snapped.

I felt like I was asleep for only minutes when I was being shaken. My eyes shot open and my frantic mother filled my vision. Her hair was a mess and her eyes had more life than I've seen in twelve years.

"What did you do?" She asked as she continued to shake me. I had no idea what she was talking about and it was hard to think like this. I shrugged her off and rubbed the sleep from my eyes.

"What are you talking about?" I mumbled. My voice was filled with the sleep that I was just rudely taken out from. My mother was standing right in front of me in her blue robe and slippers. She looked terrified. "Mom what's wrong?"

She didn't answer me for a while. I watched as her eyes filled with tears and she started to shake her head. I was bewildered. What could make her act this way? This was the most I've seen from her in a while and it was the wrong emotion I wanted to see. She was so upset and I did something to cause it. The feeling that came with knowing that wasn't a good one.

"The news," she whispered as a few tears fell from her eyes and rolled down her cheeks. "I saw the news."

I didn't move from my spot. I knew I should be comforting her but I just couldn't move. I didn't think that I was actually shown on the news avoiding the news reporter. I didn't think my mother would figure out that I was leaving at night.

She had a right to be this upset. I snuck out and the result of that was a family dying. She was right to keep me inside and I felt awful disobeying her.

"I'm so sorry," I told her and I meant it. "I should have listened to you. I shouldn't have went out there."

"They'll come for you," she sobbed as more tears fell from her eyes. Now I was confused. Who was they? Did she mean the police? "They'll come for my baby."

"They have no proof that I did anything," I assured her and embraced her in a hug. "Me walking away from the reporter isn't enough for them to arrest me mom. Everything is okay."

She didn't seem to be listening to me. For once, I feared for my mom's sanity instead of my own. She didn't hug me back, just cried. I didn't know what to do. I've never seen my mother cry before so I just continued to hug her.

"Everything is not okay," she said. "Amelia they'll come for you. I told you not to go out and because you did they'll take you away."

I stepped back from her with a frown. "Mom what are you talking about?"

She ran a hand through her wild hair in frustration and I could see the wheels turning in her head. "I've kept you safe for so long. I thought that we could be normal."

"I'm so confused," I said as my frown deepened. "What are we talking about? Who is they? Are we still talking about the police?"

"I don't fucking care about the police Amelia!" She yelled and I flinched away from her. I've never seen her so angry before and she's never cursed at me. I only learned those words from Zain.

"Who are you talking about? Who are you keeping me safe from?" It came out as a whisper. I was afraid of her. Her eyes were wild as she looked at me and I barely recognized the calm person I knew as my mother.

"We have to leave," she said and my heart stopped. "Pack your things we're leaving."

I couldn't just leave. I didn't have much of a life here but it was still something. I couldn't just leave Zain. He was my only friend and I knew if we just moved I would never seen him again. I had the phone but it wouldn't be the same.
