"Come on Harm. Get up." The small demon dog opened his eyes and regarded me impassively.
The next morning I decided to take him out for a walk. I didn't know if I needed to walk him but it was a good cover up for what I wanted to do. I wanted answers and there's no better person than the source of all of this. I didn't know who officially was the source but it was obvious that the Bones had a part in this. If I get a Bone, I could get answers. And it shouldn't be hard to get a Bone since they were all over the place.
Harm looked at me before closing his eyes once again. I thought that after what happened yesterday, he would do whatever I wanted but I was wrong. Harm had a lot of courage and he wasn't moving from his spot.
So I physically moved him. I grabbed him from his stomach and held him like a dog. Harm growled but did nothing to stop me. He didn't have a collar or anything for me to attach a leash- not that I had one- but carrying him would have to do. It's not like he was trying to escape my warm bed and comfortable room.
I completely forgot the guards outside of my room. "Queen Amelia, do you want us to accompany you?" one of them asked. I sighed and faced them.
"No," I said. "I'm just showing Harm the castle." I didn't miss the way they looked at Harm with fear. I was the only one that was comfortable with Harm being here.
They nodded and allowed me to walk away. As soon as I was out of their sight I bolted for the exit. The small demon dog growled at the fast pace but I ignored him. I wanted to get this done before anyone realized I was gone. I also wanted to get out of the castle without seeing any more guards.
Once I was outside, my nerves calmed. The streets were relatively empty and I frowned. When I first got here, Bones littered the street but now they were gone. I wondered if they actually used the old buildings and houses that decorated the town. Did the dead pretend they weren't dead? Did they find their family and continue to be a family? I wondered if anyone found love here in the Underworld. I felt like I was here for so long and I still didn't know anything about the civilization. I didn't even know Rick and Marc's last name. I didn't know as much about my best friend as I thought, I haven't even met his parents or knew if he had siblings. But those answers had to come last, there were things that were more important.
Harm started to become restless so I let him down, preparing myself for him to run. I was surprised when he just stayed next to me. He looked up as if telling me that he was waiting for me to move before he did. I guess he was fine with being my dog.
Standing here wondering where to go wasn't doing anything so I decided to walk and hope for the best. I looked back to make sure Harm was following before continuing my strides.
"Can't you just sniff out a Bone?" I asked him. Harm looked at me then looked away. I guess that was a no. I didn't know why he didn't speak, I knew he could.
Suddenly Harm started to growl and I watched as his green eyes turned red. I extended my hand out toward him and he fell to the floor, his eyes closed and his breathing regular. I smiled since I obviously had more control of my powers. I look toward where Harm was growling at and stared impassively at the Bone a few feet away from me. It certainly was a scary sight seeing these things but I was too determined to get answers to cower away from it. Plus Harm was the scariest thing I've seen so far and he was now my pet.
I extended my hand toward the Bone as it ran toward me. I felt the pain in my chest and I gasped. It was worse than last time. The Bone switched from its current form to ghost form and looked at me with surprise. The woman in front of me was very attractive with two auburn braids stopping at her shoulders and freckles taking residents on her cheeks. Her eyes were a dark color and her mouth turned into a scowl. I recognized her as Penelope. I saw how she died the first night I was here.
