Time skip a couple weeks to a Friday afternoon

It was a very nice Friday afternoon, the sun was shining, it was fall, but still early enough for it to be okay to just wear hoodie and be fine. Down the street from Caspar house were some woods with a few hiking trails, and the gang decided it would fun for them to go have an "adventure" and "explore" the "dense jungle." Needless to say they had overactive imaginations when it came to this sort of thing.

"Hey Dan!" Phil greeted his friend as he walked up to him, leaning against the locker next to Dans, his hands in his pockets casually.

"What?" Dan groaned as he slammed his locker shut and looked at Phil. His day had been pretty shit, and at this moment, even Phils beautiful eyes and comforting voice and adorable smirk and- Dan! Snap out of it! He reminded himself. "Sorry, what we're you saying?" He asked sheepishly as he once agin turned his attention back to their conversation.

"Well, you know the woods by Caspars house?" Phil asked, not paying much mind to Dans exhausted look.

"Yeah?" Dan sighed, prompting Phil to continue.

"Caspar and a couple of our other friends, including me, were going to go out and have an adventure!" He laughed at how stupid it sounded saying it out loud. "You know, because the weathers nice and we haven't really hung out as a group in forever." Phil explained excitedly, talking so fast he was stumbling over his words.

"What? Slow down. But, um, yeah, that sounds fun." Dan replied, shouldering his pack. Despite his tired state, he knew that this would be a great opportunity to talk to Phil alone. But not in a creepy way! And any excuse to do that brightened up his mood immediately. "I mean, that sounds great! Are we going now?" He asked.

Phil smiled. He hoped this worked. "Awesome! Let's go find Caspar and the gang and we'll head off!" He told Dan as he started skipping off to find their friends, a much more awake Dan following suit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They did so, and after a brief phone call so Dan could tell his mom he was hanging out with his friends, they were ready to go.
They escaped the school and headed over to Caspars house, where they agreed they would all drop their bags off and hangout there afterwards. Today's squad consisted of Caspar, Phil, PJ, Cat, Tyler and Dan. Tyler was telling some funny story while the others listened and occasionally (more than occasionally) interrupted to state their own thoughts and opinions on the matter. Everyone was having a more or less great time, everyone, that is, except for Dan. At the moment, he had been pushed to the back of the group, and there he stayed. He didn't mind that much, but a part of him did wish that the others at least cared enough to notice that he wasn't really engaging in the conversation.
And there he was, all fine and dandy (more or less) just lost in his web of thoughts, until, that is, someone had to go and notice him. That someone being a very specific black haired-blue eyed boy who Dan had an unimaginably big crush on.
"How's it going Danny?" Phil asked, laughing as he fell back behind the group to chat with his friend. "You look sort of down in the dumps, you okay?" He asked again, a bit more seriously this time.
"Yeah, yeah I'm fine." Dan mumbled, looking down at the ground, slightly scuffing his shoes along the ground.
"You sure? You don't look okay." Phil said, quieter and an edge of worry in his voice.
Dan just sighed. How was he supposed to explain to this perfect being next to him that all he wanted to do was just go for a stroll in the woods alone, holding hands, being cute together, but of course he didn't, lord knows that would only scare away the blue-eyed boy, making him think that Dan was a creep forever. Or would it?
Phil wrapped an arm around Dans shoulder in a friendly, joking way. "Aw, come on bud! What's on your mind?" He asked, giving Dan his best puppy dog eyes.
"I-I dunno, I just, guess I've been thinking about stuff... and stuff." Dan mumbled, shaking off Phils arm and brushing off his question, his eyes focused on the ground.
Phil frowned. He knew that Dan sometimes had "existential crises" where he would feel down for a few hours, sometimes even a few days, but it was never this bad. Something was definitely up. "Dan, I'm not stupid. What's on your mind?" He asked, starting to get concerned.
Dan just shook his head. "Nothing. Nothing important, anyway." Why did Phil have to keep pressing the matter? Doesn't he understand that eventually I'll slip up and tell him that I'm madly in love with him? No, of course not. It's not like he can read your mind dumbass!
