Vera's POV
"All I'm saying is, I have no interest in him," I shrug, clasping the hoop earring back on. Partying has never been something I enjoy, and after tonight it never would be.
"You are so uptight would you just live a little!?" Leah pouts, pulling up the side of my dress. I pull that same side back down, not keen on showing any more skin. Holding a hand up to my forehead, the dizziness I've been avoiding all night threatens to topple me over.
"Look, Leah, I just want to go home," I sigh, hobbling towards the door. I immedidately regret my bright idea of wearing nude stiletto pumps. My toes push forward into the front of the too high heels, and I rush ahead to maintain my balance. Leah rolls her eyes and throws her hands up in defeat. My attempts to rush for the door are quickly thwarted as I find myself face to face with a wall. A wall that is Colin Kaepernick's chest. This night can't get any worse.
"Vera? Whassup?" His voice has a slow drawl to it, one that I'm all too familiar with by now. I keep myself from rolling my eyes, while plastering a fake smile on my face.
"Nothing Colin, I was just heading home. But Leah is totally gonna stay, she loves this party and your home!" I nudge Leah a little too hard in Colin's direction, all the while trying to find the quickest escape route. Colin looks from me to Leah, his eyes narrowing as he takes another sip from his red cup.
"Why?" he asks, his tone making it clear he isn't going to be moving out of my way anytime soon. I cross my arms over my chest. Two can play that game.
"Because I want to go home, that's why." I snap. Colin raises his eyebrows, his light brown eyes searching me in a way that makes me blush. He smirks. Turning away, I shake off unwelcome thoughts. Ain't nobody got time for that.
"You don't want something to drink?" He presses, motioning to the bar. Leah stifles a laugh, and I elbow her hard.
"What?" he asks, looking from Leah to me.
"I don't drink Colin, and I don't plan on starting tonight," I finish. Colin gazes off thoughtfully as two girls saunter from behind him, each grabbing him by the arm. Their shrill laughter coupled with skintight dresses push my dizziness into a blinding headache. As if on cue, Chris Brown's "Loyal" blares from the speakers. Colin searches me once more, but before he can say anything I give him a quick salute, shoot Leah a meaningful look, and clumsily hobble towards the door.
