Colin's POV

Their hands come around me, pulling me away from her. I can't see, I can't really tell what's going on. I don't fucking want to anyway. All I know is that they're trying to fucking pull me away from her. I elbow someone behind me, sending them to the hard concrete floor.

"LET GO COLIN!" Becca's voice breaks through the silence, and the commotion going on around me brings me to the present. My forehead pulses, and I'm breathing heavily, every part of me is on edge. I can't fucking think straight. Several people come around me, I notice the stretcher first. Two men pull it open, unfastening seat belts to clasp Vera into. I look down at her once more. Her body is laid out beside me, one arm above her, her hand reaching toward one end of the bed, and the other against my chest. Her eyes are so peacefully closed, those long lashes not framing the bright brown eyes I'm used to seeing. There are splotches of purple across her face, bruises, cuts, dried blood. I press my forehead to hers, its cold. So fucking cold. Her lips are chapped from dehydration. I press her mouth against mine, the saltiness of my tears are covering her. More hands come around me, and I kick and fight back.

"COLIN PLEASE! SHE HAS TO GO!" Becca's last four words end me, and I fall limp onto the floor beside the mattress, as they carry Vera's limp body onto the stretcher.

Vera's POV

Voices, so many voices. I can't tell whose voice is whose. There is a certain cloudiness to my awareness that I can't really pinpoint. But my head is fuzzy, it almost tickles. That's when I realize how warm it is. It's so warm, so peaceful. I'm not hurting anymore.

"Vera, Vera, baby wake up," a soft familiar voice silences the other voices, and calms my rapid breathing. My heartbeat is still there, but it's very faint. I feel my eyelids flicker open, a blinding light makes me wince. Where am I? Whose voice is that? It can't be....

        "Baby? Are you okay?"

I shoot straight up, and come face to face with my grandmother.

Colin's POV

We rush to the hospital, sirens blaring from the damn ambulance. As soon as the stretcher hits the pavement; I'm on the ground too.

"I'm sorry sir, but we're going to need you to wait in the family area," A doctor comes alongside me, nearly jogging to keep up with the stretcher carrying Vera. His voice is firm, unapologetic. Another mask comes over Vera's face, and I'm trying to figure out what the hell they're doing to my baby girl. I haven't moved my hand from hers the entire ride here. I damn sure as hell don't want to leave now.

"What's going to happen? What's going to happen to my baby? Both of them?" I snap at the doctor. Another pair of hands pull me back, I'm getting more aggressive than I mean to. I turn to Becca, who is trying to keep up with my long strides.

"Sir, outside. We are going to do everything we can," The doctor, a man a foot shorter than me, rests his hand on my chest, nodding me towards the waiting room. With that, a team of the best doctors in Seattle disappear behind double doors, taking everything that is important to me with them.
