One day, I went to the library to continue with the research. It was five o’clock, right after my last class. We didn’t have basketball practice that day, so I decided to use the library to research. I walked in and looked for a vacant table. Our school library’s the same size as our Gym. I guess they really wanted students to use physical books than iPads and tablets. I found an empty table at the end of the room, near the SCIENCE row of books. I placed my bag on the table then got my notebook and pen out. I walked towards the LITERATTURE row to find a book about Mythology. That’s the topic given to us by Ms. Banks. I already did the brief history of the Greeks and would now go through the names of the Gods and their abilities. If I had more time, I could get more details. I’ve done scanning two rows but I still haven’t seen a Mythology book.
I walked past a row of books and saw something on the floor. I stopped and approached what’s on the floor. It was Helena. She’s wearing her skinny jeans, her black tank top and red Converse. She had her head on her mailbag and her headset on her ears, blasting a song. She’s lying on her jacket to prevent getting cold. She’s sleeping in the library! I came closer to wake her up but I stopped and thought hard. I might get another punch in the face if I cut her sleep short. I heard a funny sound somewhere. I looked around nervously. The librarian might be roving around. When she sees us here, we’re dead. I was only a couple of meters away from Helena and the sound became louder.
I started to walk towards Helena to wake her up. Then there’s a loud crash from the end of the library. The sound came closer and closer. I knelt beside Helena and shook her. I took off her headset so she could hear me. “Helena. Helena, wake up. The librarian’s coming.” I was not really sure if it’s the librarian anymore. The banging and the crashing got nearer and louder. I started to panic and shook Helena harder. Students ran and shouted. Helena moved and mumbled something. “Helena!” The shelf behind us fell. I stood in front of it and held it so it wouldn’t smash us. It’s really heavy, even with the books fallen.
Helena finally woke up and her eyes grew big when she saw me holding up the shelf. “Oh my Gods!” She sat up and held the shelf with me. “We have to push it away, Taylor.” I heard another sound above us. It’s like a big fan set to maximum blow. My hands were getting tired.
“On my count!” I looked at her for approval. She nodded at me. I found it strange that she’s not in bossy mode. She looked disturbed and worried. I’ve never seen her like this before. “One. Two. Three!” And we pushed the shelf away from us. I was really relived that we’re not Taylor and Helena pizza flavor but she looked different. We stood up and I felt something whirling above our heads and Helena stared at it.
I looked up and saw a giant bird. No, it’s a bat. No, a woman. I was not sure what to make out of it. It had long hair, a pair of leathery wings and its ears were big. It had sharp, long nails, fiery eyes and scary set of teeth. “A fury!” I heard Helena said. I heard that word before. I held her hand and asked her to run. “No. YOU run. Hide somewhere.” She then pulled out her hair clip and it transformed into a red, shiny spear.
“I will crush you, Godling!” The creature above shouted. Helena pushed me away and battled with the creature. I fell on the floor and saw two sets of feet approaching. I looked up to see who they were but they’re not familiar.
“Helena!” A girl our age called out. She held a knife and was ready to attack. Beside her was a boy who held a pen. The girl went to help Helena and the boy uncapped his pen. It then transformed to a sword. I watched as the three of them battle the ugly creature. I couldn’t believe what I saw. The boy finally slashed the creature through its body and it dissolved in million tiny pieces.
“They’re following you.” The girl with the knife told Helena.
“Why? I don’t have any trouble with Hades!” The ground shook when she said that.
“There’s a prophecy. A powerful monster will destroy Camp and only a child of Ares can pulverize it.” The boy said.
“What? So all of us will be attacked? All because we’re Ares’ offsprings?” Helena’s mad now. She kicked a book and it slide towards me.
“Oh.” The other girl said.
“I told you to run! Why are you still here?” Her spear transformed back to her hair clip. She’s mad at me now. She’s herself again, same old Helena. She approached me and I prepared to be a punching bag.
“Helena.” The boy stopped her midway. “We can just use Mist. Please calm down. We don’t want mortals to be hurt.” Mortals? Mist?
“What?” I looked at them like they’re crazy people.
“I’m Annabeth Chase and this is Percy Jackson. We’re Helena’s cousins.” Annabeth helped me up. “We’re here to visit her and to tell her a message from our uncle.” She said more but I forgot what they were. I just woke up in the clinic and the nurse was putting a gauze pad on my forehead.
