I double-checked my tie on the rearview mirror of my dad’s car. I parked in front of the Adams’ residence. It’s the night of the Founder’s Ball and I was to pick Helena up. I got off the car and walked towards their door. “You can do this, Taylor!” I encouraged myself. I knocked on the door and Elizabeth Adams opened it. “Good evening, Ma’am. I’m Taylor Matthews.” The famous actress smiled at me and I saw Helen’s smile.

“Helena will be here in a moment. Have a seat, Taylor.” I sat on their living room sofa. I was amazed how classy their house was.

“Hey, Taylor!” I heard Helena’s voice. I stood up to face her and froze. She’s very pretty. She wore a black cocktail dress and her red hair was well styled. Her hair clip was still there. She wore red earrings, her necklace had a red gem on it and her bracelet was also filled with red stones. She stood almost as tall as me because of her high-heeled shoes.“Earth to Taylor!” She shook me from my trance. I shook my head and we left the house.

The founder’s Ball was held at the back of Olympus High. A stage was created and a dance floor in front of it. The back of the school had a lake where people from town sometimes fish. There were a few students around when we arrived. Some were eating, some were chatting, and some were already dancing. Some greeted us as we entered the venue. “Hey Taylor, nice tux!” One of my team mates complimented me.

“You look lovely, Helena!” Ms. Banks told her in all smiles.  I asked Helena to sit on a vacant table as I get us refreshments. People started to crowd the place as the night gone by.

We were dancing together with our classmates when I noticed Helena stiffened. I came to her side and asked, “What’s wrong?” She looked from left to right and checked on her hair clip, making sure it’s still there. “Is there something out there?” I should have seen it if there was anything strange. I looked around and noticed something from the forest side. Walking towards the WELCOME arch were three ugly creatures. They had flaming hair, white skin and red eyes. They walked strangely, like they had sprained one of their legs. I tugged on Helena and pointed at the creatures.

“Outsiders are allowed to join the Ball, right?” I looked at her, confused.

“Yes, I know that. I’ve here since elementary. But I don’t mean outsiders. Can’t you see them?” She looked in the direction of the creatures again.

“Are you trying to insult me, Taylor Matthews? If you think they’re prettier than me, fine! Go and ask them to dance!” She walked away, stomping her feet. Did she say prettier? What on Earth was she talking about?

The ugly creatures seemed to notice Helena because they went to the direction she headed. I ran and called out to her. “Helena!” She wouldn’t stop walking pass people. I caught her arm and she looked at me with angry eyes.

“What is your problem, Taylor?! I thought you’re going after those-“

“Can’t you see what they are? They’re monsters! And they’re going after you!” I heard students complaining and some panicking from behind us. Walking passed them and pushing were the three ugly creatures. I was not sure why Helena couldn’t see them.

“There she is!” Ugly number 1 said and they charged towards us. I heard Helena gasped beside me and she quickly took off her hair clip. It turned into her five-foot long shiny spear. As she positioned for attack, two pegasi flew above us and landed near the bridge above the river.

Annabeth and Percy dismounted and ran towards Helena and me. “Empousai!” Annabeth said as she reached Helena.

“I don’t see any, Annabeth.” Percy said next to me. I couldn’t believe they didn’t see the monsters coming.

“Over there, the three girls in green dresses.” I told Percy.

“You can see them?” Annabeth asked in surprise.

“Surprisingly, yes. Why can’t you?”

“Half-bloods!” Ugly number 2 said and they moved faster. Annabeth took out her knife and Percy uncapped his pen. The ugly girls charged and the three demigods split up. I ran behind a tree next to the bridge. Nobody seemed to notice because the party was still in progress. Or was the Mist covering these up again. The ugly creatures must be strong because Helena was backing up towards the bridge. She missed a step and fell off.
