Chapter 1: A New Era (Hikaru's POV)

My name is Hikaru Sekai. I'm not the biggest person when it comes to introduction. Sorry not sorry. Anyways, today is launch day of the new NerveGear Virtual Reality headset along with its new game, Sword Art Online. Full Dive Technology? That's a big step. I mean back in 2016 we had VR headsets that made things look like you were there but this is insane. Well I have school today so I'll just see what my friends think about it.

I leave my apartment to get on the school bus. I don't want to miss it like last time...ugh that walk to school was so tiring I fell asleep in class and got detention....C'mon please tell me it's still here..!

"Oh Come on! Really?! Again?!"

I growled and took a big deep breath.

"I swear if I get detention again because of this....."

I start running straight to my school which is quite a ways away.

-----about 20 minutes later----

Ugh.....heh....Heh......gotta.......catch.........my breath.........

"Hey! Hiku!"

I look up and see my three friends, a guy my age and a girl with her sister that are both a year younger than me. I think.......

"I told you to stop calling me that!"

"Ahahaha! I will call you all I want!"

He lightly punches my arm. And I just roll my eyes playfully.

"Yujin! Why didn't you wait for us?"

One girl runs up and lightly slaps my friend, Yujin on the arm.

"What, Sakura? I got excited!"

He said laughing as Sakura's sister, Nobushi runs over next to her.

"So, what do you guys feel about the new NerveGear system?"

I asked looking at all of them.

"I already preordered it! But the only problem is my mom isn't too happy about it so she isn't even gonna let me use it. So I think I'll just give it away."

Yujin said.

"Well I'm really not the biggest video game person....but I do like swords so maybe I'll try it out sometime..."

Nobushi said.

"Well I'm not big on video games either so I think I'll just kinda let it be....what about you, Hikaru? Are you going to try it?"

I looked over at Sakura.

"I love video games and swords and I also played the beta and it was actually really fun so maybe....only problem is I never preordered it and I'm sure as soon as it's released they'll all be sold out...."

"Well, like I said earlier I preordered it but I can't play it. So Hikaru if you want, you can just have mine."

"R-really?!"

Would he really let me have it? Today isn't April fools day....what prank is he planning?

"Of course! What use do I have for it?"

He laughed and I smiled.

"I'll bring it by your house after school."

I smiled bigger.

"Thank you so much Yujin! I really do appreciate it!"

The school bell rang so me, Nobushi, Yujin and Sakura each went off to our classes. Sword art online, huh.....?
