"I don't want to."
Eight-year old Adam glared at his mother. He was being forced to attend some boring baptismal celebration. His mom just told him today, so he had no choice while his hair was being fixed succinctly. He hated longsleeves and anything associated with it.
"Can you stop being difficult for once?!" his mother snapped. "Why can't be like Kier? Why do you have to be so difficult, Adam?"
Adam kept himself mum. For his mother, Kier was the better among the two of them. Kier was such a gentleman. Kier was perfect in her eyes.
Speaking of his elder brother five years older than him... Kier was also donning some formal attire. His mother gave him an approving smile.
Adam silently looked at his brother. Honestly, they were not close brothers. They led separate lives.
His mother would only smile towards Kier. Deep inside him, he was shooting daggers at the two of them. He would certainly leave this house!
"See? That wasn't so hard, was it?" his mother added, scanning Adam's attire quickly and motioning him to leave the room.
Adam rushed to his room, searching for his giant teddy bear placed on his bed. He sat on the bed, hugging the stuff toy tightly and closing his eyes. He loved his one and only toy. He didn't care about other things aside from his books. He didn't even notice his tears staining the bear or his mother calling him to go downstairs.
Clutching a book, Adam entered the party. He scanned the people inside the hall. There were a lot of children roaming around. His mother told him to go to the playroom with the kids. He sat on the floor, reading silently. He did not notice how much time had passed until his mother called him for lunch.
Everybody was busy once more. Adam realized that the program was over and the baby was officially a Roman Catholic. He saw the parents busy entertaining the visitors, while the baby was left in a large basket on top of the table. He hated other kids, and this toddler was not an exception. He rolled his eyes and began walking away when the baby began standing up on her own, extending her arms. She giggled and almost fell on the floor, had Adam not caught her.
He looked at the baby worriedly, searching for injuries. He won't be held responsible if something bad happened! When there was none, he looked at the baby's face, still giggling and fisting his hair. His jaw dropped.
'She was so cute! Can I take her home right now?'
He did not notice that the parents as well as his mom approached them. He still had the baby in his arms, totally clueless of what had just happened.
"What happened to my baby?" the baby's mother asked him gently.
He looked at her coldly. "She tried to stand up in the basket. She almost fell down."
The woman smiled at him. "Oh, my Elisha! She's always full of energy. She hates being put down!"
'Oh? But she's still so adorable. Nobody would laugh at him that way, let alone be interested with his hair!'
"Elisha?" he asked the woman curiously,
"Ah yes! Her name is Hannah Elisha," the latter replied enthusiastically. "You guys look cute together. You're like her long-lost kuya!"
