Day 2
On the second day of my life, I returned to the store because I really did need a dress.
"You're back," the blonde boy said upon my arrival.
"I am," I replied, fingering the fabric of a plain black dress.
"Are you going to buy the dress?" He asked, arching an eyebrow.
"No," I answered quite abruptly, stepping back from the rack.
"Oh." He was looking at me, watching me, judging me.
"Yeah." I swallowed around a lump in my throat. He was just like everyone else, picking me apart without even giving me a real chance. There it was again-- that feeling of rejection without even opening up. I wanted to cry--even more, I wanted to cut.
"Do you see any dresses around here that you do want to buy?" The air of impatience in his voice clouded my mind, his words unable to break through.
"I..." I tried to form the words. "I..."
"How about I give you some time?" He suggested. And then, poof. He was gone. He was walking away from me just like every other person I'd met.
Then I went into the dressing room and cried.
