It has been a week since Jack left for New York and of course it hasn't been the happiest of times, but Soph and I have video called him twice already so we don't miss him as much. We've found that he lives in a very, may I say, swanky 'appartment' (one week in the US and he's gone from flat to appartment). Apparently he and his brother love it because they can go next door to the pizza shop whenever they feel like it still in their lazy clothes as it is so close. We found out that Jack was taking a maths course at a college near his flat so maybe one day he'll be a leading mathmatician.
'BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-THIS-IS-SOPHIE-YOUR-BESSIE-YOUR-BESSIE-YEAH!' My phone chimed over and over again. As you can probably tell that is Soph's personalised ringtone so I picked it up "Yeah?"
"Hey Jet! I was wondering if you could knock for me later?" She asked.
"Of course. I'll be at yours about 11:30 yeah?" I replied.
"Thanks, you're the best, see ya"
"Bye Soph!" I finished. You're probably wondering what's going on but it's nothing bad we're just going to results day.
I find it very disconcerting that my whole future depends on my work from when I was 14 to when I will be 18. However, it does give me an incentive to work harder which my parents love because I don't sit around doing nothing all day. Anyway, I decide it's about time to get up so I pick up some clothes out of my wardrobe that I can't go to wrong with- a pair of faded blue jeans, a pinky peach strappy top and a cardigan to go over the top. It's quite an awkward temperature outside at the moment because it's too hot for a coat but too cold without a jumper but it is the perfect time to show off my new cardi that Soph 'helped' me buy.
I flew down the stairs skipping the last two and skidded into the kitchen in my socks cos I'm cool like that. I glanced at the clock on my phone only to discover it was 11:14. Great! I had only 16 minutes to do a 15 minute walk, eat breakfast and put my pumps on. Oh well, there's nothing like a brisk walk in the morning to wake you up.
I quickly chugged down a glass of water, grabbed a cereal bar each for me and Soph knowing she'll be running late aswell, threw some shoes on and charged out the door. I've never been the most athletic person so running this far was definitely a new experience which has helped me to discover I need to exercise more immediately.
As I jog into Soph's road I can now see why she wanted me to knock for her. There are people everywhere; some going out, some coming in, kids playing footie, old people gardening and they are all with their friends or families. Soph would've been the odd one out on her jack and would have felt like a loner. I turn into Soph's house, ring the bell twice and knock on the door three times (it's our secret knock so her parents know to let Soph open it because it's only me).
"Jet! How are you?And why are you so red?" Soph exclaimed.
"Not too bad and I kinda had to run here hence the redness." I replied.
"Ah well, let's go then!" She chirped.
We headed off down the road to school. As we passes through the alley just before we got there, you could almost feel the nerves in the air. Soph and I had worked so hard to get good grades we shouldn't be worried because as the saying goes 'If you've tried your best you've got nothing to worry about,' but there's always a slight niggle in the back of your mind taking away that confidence you once had.
Despite the niggling we walked into the dining hall full of apprhensive pupils. Some who had already got their results we showing an array of reactions from tearing up or sobbing to leaping and jumping for joy. Now it was our turn to collect the letters that would carve both of our futures. Soph and I had both agreed to open each of ours at the same time so we collect our results off of one of the tables, open the envelopes and shut our eyes.
Soph goes "3!"
I go "2!"
Simultaneously we say "1!" and open our eyes to reveal our results.
All I can say is WOW! I flick down the page:
English literature & language - A
Maths- A
Biology- A*
Chemistry-B
Physics-A
PE- PASS
IT- B
BUSINESS- A*
CHILD DEVELOPMENT- A*
CATERING- A
All I can say is I'm shocked. I was fairly confident I would pass everything but to get these results just WOW I can't even speak! I turn to see how Soph got on but am shocked to see tears trickling down her face, a sight I was not expecting to see. I hugged her to my side.
"Hey hey Soph what's up?" I ask.
"i-i-i can't believe it m-m-my results." She snivelled. I rocked her back and forth for a while trying to figure out what to do. Still without much of a plan, Soph's shoulders were still shaking indicating she was still crying, I decided to prize open her hands and look at her results:
English literature & language- A
Maths- B
Biology- C
Chemistry- A
Physics- A*
PE- Fail
Performing Arts- B
Art- A
Business- C
Textiles- A
Glancing from these to Soph and back I was pretty confused to why she was actually crying. Now don't get me wrong I understand that if she failed everything then there is a reason to be upset. But to get above and beyond a pass and to still be crying I was still slightly confused. I tapped Soph's hand and obviously looked confused because she says "No no no Jet you've got it all wrong. Now don't get me wrong I know in some subjects I just scraped a pass and others still have a lot of room for improvement but I'm happy. To get into my college course I needed a good grade in art and textiles to be considered for a place and I've got A's in both."
I was still puzzled to why so many tears were shed. "Then why so much crying?" I asked.
"I guess it was just my way of releasing the stress we've been under."
With that we decided it would be good to go back to Soph's and celebrate with films and pizza whilst sitting under a tent of blankets. All the way back we were just so proud of each other we skipped most of the way earning some weird looks from her neighbours and a few fit boys. Any other day we'd be utterly embarrassed but today we were just relieved that our hard work had paid off.
