Soph, James and I were on our way back from Pruffy Major. At Pruffy Major Soph waited in the car whilst James and I signed up, got given the necessary information and were given our sixth form passes. James had offered for us to go back to his but we greatfully declined saying "nah, we've got girl stuff to do."
After James had dropped us off at Soph's we clambered up the stairs and plonked ourselves onto her queen size, super squishy bed. I'd always loved her bed. When we were in here last summer she told me that it was her aim to name every item in her room. That day we sat around coming up with random things call Sophie stuff. In the end her bed became the Squish Monster.
"Ah", I sighed, "can't beat the Squish Monster after a long, stressful day."
Soph just laughed. " It wasn't that bad." She the began looking through her board games. (Don't judge, you can't beat a board game when chocolate buttons are at stake).
"Oh yeah, says the one that cried earlier." I retorted., refusing to believe she wasn't as drained as I was. Trust me when I say I can cope with dancing or something but if it requires brain juices I'll be knackered. Once I completed my catering exam I was frazzled- so much preparation had gone into that I was exhausted. At least it paid off I guess!
Soph playfully glared at me and stuck her tongue out at me, "Pshht at least I have emotions!"
Grabbing the butterfly cushion behind me, I attempted to lob it at Soph's head and let's just say I missed her head and hit her brother who was just coming in her room.
For most people it'd be weird having your older brother coming into your room while friends are round, but Soph loved her brother Matt and I've known him since I met Soph in reception, so he was like a brother to me. Suprisingly, Matt didn't care about the cushion he just dropped down on the Squish Monster and asked "So what we playing?"
Soph just wiggled the cards at him, made him shuffle them and was about to make him deal them when his phone began to rung. He answered and he went from usual casual Matt to having a concerned expression etched onto his face. He then handed me the phone and said "your brother wants you."
I took the phone slightly confused "Jay?"
"Ah Jet", he rushed, "why aren't you answering your phone?"
"It died, why?" I inquired.
"Mum's gone mad at Dad 'cos he had an interview and didn't tell us so now she's having a re-run TV marathon and Dad's at the pub." Jay sounded stressed.
I sighed. "I'll be there in a minute".
I looked apologetically at Soph. "I've gotta go, Soph I'm really sorry."
"It's ok call me later. Get Matt to give you a lift."
I gave Soph a brief hug, went downstairs and told Matt "Take me home."
From the look on Matt's face he knew it was an emergency because I never tell him what to do and I never stopped by at their place for a quick chat. When we got in the car he'd bought with his last three years Christmas and birthday money. He said, "Jet you mean a lot to me and you know we're all here for you, I'm always here for you."
"Thanks Matt," I smiled "sometimes you're more of a brother to me than Jay."
Matt knew about everything in my life, he even knew that when I was younger and got my HPV injections I was so fascinated by the process I tried to strike up a conversation with the nurse but got told to move because there was a line behind me. Don't get me wrong I love Jay with all my heart but Matt remembers the little things.
A flicker of disappointment flashed across his face but was quickly masked by a small smile.
Ok then?
