I went to sleep that night accomplished. Jay and I had waited up for Mum and Dad to stop arguing, which they did which is good I guess- if it didn't take three hours! Yes, you heard me, THREE WHOLE HOURS!!! On the plus side I did finish reading my book and now I have an excuse to go to the library and not get shouted at for 'hiding in the library.' Dad apologised for keeping stuff a secret but said that he didn't want to get our hopes up in case he didn't get the job, understandable in my opinion but I'm glad he apologised so that my Mum will go back to being her usual self. Mum has promised me that tonight after work she's going to take me out to celebrate my results- I actually can't wait. I mean who wouldn't jump at the opportunity to eat artificially coloured solidified sugary milk? Exactly my point.
The next morning I rose with the sun. An unusual occurrence in the holidays but I do like to get up and make the most of a day (especially when I have to go out). Considering I wasn't going anywhere exciting I contemplated wearing joggers and a hoodie but went against the idea when I realised that it was kind of sunny outside and thick clothes just wouldn't be appropriate. I settled on floral three quatre lengths and a plain blue stretchy top- comfort is key no matter what (unless we're talking about cute shoes. Then anything goes). I have a ritual that every time I go to the library I stop at the corner shop for either breakfast, lunch or a snack.Normally, I'd grab a bar a of chocolate that I can munch on on the way but today when I got there I just wasn't feeling inspired, you know? I was pretty hungry but there wasn't anything that appealed to me, however as I was just about leave my stomach rumbled emarrassingly loud, so loud infact that I'm sure that martians could hear it. Dragging my feet back to the snack shelf I just didn't have a clue what to pick, I'm not the most decisive of people so having a choice of twenty different chocolate bars and ten different flavours of crisps wasn't an ideal situation to be in. I know it's not a life changing decision but come on who can chose between sweet chilli and salt and vinegar, seriously?
I sighed, seriously I was so uninspired. A person appeared in the corner of my eye, I wouldn't of thought anything of because I was in a shop but I could sense him looking at me. I was just about to ask him what his problem was when he said "Is it really that hard to choose?"
I rolled my eyes, obviously it was otherwise I wouldn't have been standing here for so long. "Yes. It is. Is that a problem?" I turned around. "Oh hi James, what you doing?"
"Grabbing a snack, you?"
"Same erm er sorry about my err rudeness I just I'm just stuck what to chose." I smiled sheepishly at him.
"Hey" He stepped towards me, "don't worry about it. I can never chose between mayo and ketchup I know how you feel." I let out a sigh of relief, I hated feeling after I'd snapped at someone. "But," he continued "if you want an experts opinion I'd get the caramel chocolate and the salt and vinegar crisps, washed down with that bottle of lemonade." He said as he pointed to the bottle.
"Oh yeah?" I raised an eyebrow at him, "and why should I get those and not something else?"
"One" he shot back, "who doesn't like caramel chocolate? And two they're on offer for half price."
I couldn't argue with him, he did have a valid point and it was a good a snack as any so I grabbed all three and placed them in front of the cashier. I didn't really know what to say to James now, I'm not the most social person going, I mean I'm quite socially awkward. He didn't push a conversation though so we just stood their as I handed the cashier my money and gave me my receipt. Once we'd left the shop, I turned to go to the library looking over my shoulder I asked James, "where you going?"
He replied with a shrug. "I'm not sure but we need some bonding time so I'll just go with you."
"For all you know" I said "I could be going to a buy underwear, are you sure you wanna come?"
He just grinned "Now that's a smart idea Jetty"
"Jetty?" I scowled.
"Why not? You're just too cute when you're cross. Come on I'll go with you wherever you're going." He took my hand and gently pulled me to his car, I couldn't resist really. And as he pulled out from the kurb I realised what he was wearing, it wasn't that his clothes were amazing or that his hair could put any girl's to shame or even the fact he smelt kind of good, it was the fact that his smile was radiating happiness making me smile to myself. Understandably James looked at me weirdly and after five minutes of driving finally admitted he still had no idea where he was going, so I just rolled my eyes at him and told him, "fine" , " I guess you can come, we're going to the library."
There's always time for firsts, and today is the first time I've spent my library time with another person.
