Chapter Four

*~*~*~*

"Is there a reason that we're stalking that girl?" I asked Hannah, noticing that she was watching the girl walking ahead of us after school.

"Maybe. Hey, Joanne." She called after the other girl, causing her to look back at us.

"Hazel. Hey." The girl, Joanne, greeted us as Hannah dragged me forward to walk alongside the other girl. "Who's your friend?"

"Piper." Hannah said, only making me raise a brow at her.

"Right," Joanne chuckled. "What's your real name, Piper?"

"Penny." I introduced myself. "And I'm guessing your name's not really Joanne?"

"Jessica." She admitted before looking at Hannah again.

"Are you following me?" Hannah asked.

"Um, I'm ahead of you." Jessica pointed out.

"Fair point." Hannah nodded. "This is a disaster. We're walking in the same direction."

"Pretty much the end of the world" Jessica agreed, only making me roll my eyes at the two of them and their dramatics.

"Impossibly Perky Counselor Lady can't turn out to be right." Hannah shook her head.

"How many cats do you think she has?" Jessica asked. "Five? Seven?"

"I was thinking twelve." Hannah guessed. I couldn't help but laugh, knowing that they were talking about Ms. Antilly, my own guidance counselor, too.

"And they're all, like, obese and purr..." Jessica continued.

"Really loud." Hannah finished for her.

"Where you two going, anyway?" Jessica asked us.

"Home." Hannah said. "I live on Bristol and Penny's on Windstar. You?"

"I'm going to Monet's for a hot chocolate." Jessica grinned, and I couldn't blame her, Monet's did have amazing hot chocolate.

"Hot chocolate. Intriguing." Hannah noted. "Especially as the day is warm."

"Hot chocolate is the cure for all things shitty in life." Jessica insisted.

"I got shit that needs curing, too." Hannah told her. "Penny?"

"I need to get home." I shook my head. "If I'm late my dad'll freak. I'll see you tomorrow?"

"Tomorrow it is." Hannah nodded as I parted ways from the other two girls.

"That top is perfect fro you." Hannah told Jessica a few weeks later as the three of us sat together at a table in Monet's. We had just finished shopping and were now enjoying some hot chocolate together while Jessica looked through her purchases.

"It shows too much of my arms. They're so fat." Jessica shook her head, shoving the shirt back into her bag.

"They're not." Hannah scoffed.

"I have substitute teacher arms." Jessica insisted.

"If you do, then so do I." I told her.
