"So is there anything that I need to know about? You know, before I step foot back into this hellhole?" I questioned Clay as we trudged across the parking lot, towards the high school. Despite it being the middle of the school day there were students wandering about outside, indicating that it was currently between classes.

"What?" He frowned, clearly not having heard a word I said to him.

"What's changed in the last four months?" I asked as we reached the side doors. As soon as we set foot inside the school I could feel eyes on me, everyone that passed us by slowed their pace slightly, taking in my appearance.

"Hey, Clay." We both paused, turning around to find Zach hurrying to catch up. For a brief moment Zach and I's gazes met, his own widening slightly at the sight of me standing in front of him. "Penny, I didn't think you were coming in today."

"Plans changed," I shrugged.

"Hey, Zach," Clay greeted the taller boy.

"Were you guys at court this morning?" Zach asked.

"Yeah. I couldn't take Tyler's lies, so I left," Clay nodded as we stopped at his locker.

"So how is this gonna happen? Is everything gonna come out?" Zach lowered his voice slightly, still on edge over the tapes.

"How the fuck would I know?" Clay swore.

"Well, when do you guys testify?" Zach asked.

"I don't," Clay informed him.

"What?" Zach's eyes widened. "Why would they call me and not call you?"

"I don't know and I don't care," Clay shook his head. It didn't take a genius to know that he was lying through his teeth. He had been the one hellbent on getting the tapes out there, to get justice for Hannah. I could only imagine how pissed he'd been when he realized he wouldn't get a chance to speak in court.

"How could you not care?" Zach frowned, not buying his lies either.

"I care about my girlfriend and I care about my grades, and that's plenty." Clay tried to brush it off.

"When you're under oath, they can ask you anything, right?" Zach glanced down at his feet.

"You stole a fucking note," Clay slammed his locker shut. "It's not like you raped her. What are you worried about?"

"What about the tapes? What about the tape you made?" Zach asked.

"Why are you still hanging around with Bryce? What does he have on you?" Clay narrowed his eyes slightly at the other boy while I simply stood by and watched. It was weird, seeing how things had changed while my parents had kept me locked away from the rest of town for months.
