We got upstairs and Slade lead me to his room. "Stay here, I'll go get him." I opened the door and hobbled over to the bed laying down watching the door. After what seemed an age Slade came back into the room followed by a shorter man with dark brown skin and dark eyes. He had a lip ring and as he came closer I noticed that he had two sleeved tattoos and the word thug scrawled above his right eyebrow.
"This is Jamal" Slade gestured to the man and I smiled at him. I looked at his thug tattoo. He was definitely not like any other doctor I've ever met. "Hey" I raised my hand in some kind of pathetic wave. "Hi, Adele right." I nodded. "Can I have a look at where it hurts Adele? " I nodded again and lifted up the hoodie slightly so my side was exposed. "I can't quite see can you take it off?" I blushed but complied. I lay they there in my bra trying desperately not to make eye contact, biting my lip in pain as he gently touched my tender skin.
The door slammed and when I looked up Slade was gone, I felt a pang go hurt. I guess he had better things to do. "Just relax." Jamal gently pushed me back to the bed. " so what do you think doc?" I said jokingly. "The cuts will heal they're just superficial, they won't leave a scar. Your ribs are gunna hurt like hell but they're not broken, so the only thing now is the pain. You a drug addict?" I looked up at him in surprise. "Don't look so shocked you're surrounded by gang members... Remember?" I laughed awkwardly.
I had kinda forgotten surrounded by this lavish house you forget the ugliness of the money that bought it. "I'm not an addict at least not so far." I chuckled. "Ok I'm gunna give you some pain meds, no taking with alcohol and try not to get dependent. That's the last thing I need." I looked up at him, worried. Seeing the small smile at the corner of his mouth I realised he was joking. "I'll try my best" I joked. "For now take these sleeping pills, get some rest." I nodded and took the pills from his hands, swallowing them down with water.
"I gotta go now. Laters Adele."
"Thank you Jamal, see you later." The door shut softly behind him. I curled myself into a ball under the sheets and fell into the land of dreams.*****
I woke up to no light except the moon shining in from the window. It was late. Looking at the bedside alarm clock I discovered it was 3:15 AM. I looked around and found that I was the only one in the room. I don't know what I expected, I don't know if Slade will also be sleeping in this room with me or not. Maybe he was still out on that 'job' earlier. I heard a girls giggle from outside the room making me jump and a muffled male voice. Thinking that it was none of my business I rolled over and closed my eyes trying to get back to sleep.
The voices moved, seemingly into the room adjacent to the one I was in. The voices were clearer now. The woman squealed with enjoyment and the man chuckled. I scoffed in disgust. Couldn't they do it anywhere else other than the room next to me? As I started to hear the bed squeak I put a pillow over my head trying to block it out. Ew just ew.
But then I heard a name that could be heard clearly no matter how many layers of feathers I covered my ears with."Slade!"
Ewwwww. I want to be anywhere but here right now. That is so gross!
I hummed a tune to myself pretending I wasn't here and ignoring the little tug to my heart. Why is this bothering me? I haven't seen him in years, I have no claim over him. I don't even want to be here! But no matter how much logic I apply to this situation, my heart still hurts a little.
After the noise stopped and there was only silence again I managed to drift of to sleep with a very uncomfortable feeling in my chest.
