Jack -
It had been a week since I told Mark he was coming to live with me and he was restless ever since.
It made me feel bad sending him back to the asylum. It was a place where he would never get better and I didn't want anything more than for him to be happy.
I was discharged a few days prior to Mark because my back was healing nicely. The haunting thought of Dark doing still filled my mind, but I tried to see past that.
"Come on Mark, it's time to go." I smiled, taking his hand and leading him out the door. He gladly skipped out the hospital and onto the street outside but stopped there. Mark seemed glad to leave, but also nervous seeing that he hadn't been in a public place in ten years.
I tightened my grip around his hand to show that he didn't have to be scared. He smiled at me and took a deep breath.
"So... who's picking us up again?" He asked kindly, a hint of fear lingering.
"My roomate Felix. He's really nice - I promise." I replied before watching a car pull up into the car park. Mark tensed but eased when Felix stepped out. Both Felix and Mark stopped and stared at eachother. I was really confused.
"Mark...?"
"Felix...?"
Felix ran up to Mark and pulled him into a tight embrace, a tear threatening to fall. Mark just let the tears fall and sobbed into Felix's shoulder.
"You two... know eachother?" I asked, staring at them with a confused expression. They knew each other?
Mark broke the hug before taking my hand, a smile bigger than I have ever seen spread across his face.
"I've known Felix all my life. He was there for me before I was sent into... the mad house." Mark whispered the last bit, clearly not wanting to think or talk about it.
"Yeah, Mark and I always hung out. He told me he was hearing voices and I tried to help him. But then one day I get a phone call saying he's been taken for 'mental help'." Felix used air quotations for 'mental help'.
"Oh" I plainly stated. It was nice to know that Mark had someone who is close to him around, it might help him recover. I smiled before piping up again.
"We better get back. It's starting to get late and I'm frickin' starving."
Me, Mark and Felix joked about all the way back to the apartment. I couldn't of been happier with Mark and him settling in. Felix's presence seemed to have a huge affect o him too.
"So how did you two meet?" Mark asked smiling, looking curiously into our eyes.
"I met Felix at a community club while playing rugby, which I can't play for shite." I said while nudging Felix and laughing.
Felix told Mark about my terrible rugby skills and I told him about Felix's terrible football skills. Mark just seemed to take in the fact that he had a best friend and a not-so-official lover who cares about him with all our hearts.
When we all stopped joking around and started heading to bed, I pulled Mark into my room. We stripped into our boxers and climbed into bed. Mark wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me closer, whispering into my ear two words before falling asleep.
"Thank you."
I smiled before cuddling into his chest and falling asleep myself.
