"We are so screwed," Red's voice groaned from the other end of the line, earning a chuckle from me.

"Just 'cause we waited until the last couple of days to get a dress for prom doesn't necessarily-"

"Demi. Shut up. We're screwed." Red interrupted, sighing afterwards.

"We'll be fine," I assured her, though I knew that it was going to be really difficult to find a dress at this late time.

"Like hell we are," she grumbled, "What time do you wanna be picked up?"

"Whenever you're ready," I told her, glancing over at myself in the mirror. I wore an oversized grey hoodie and high waisted shorts along with black joggers.

"Cool. I'll be there in ten." Red told me, before hanging up.

I put my hair up in a messy bun and made my way down stairs to catch my dad about to walk out the door. He carried his suitcase with him and was about to close the front door behind him when I called out, "Where are you going?"

Dad snapped his head towards me and sighed. "Business trip. I'll be back by Monday."

"You just got your job, though," I said wearily, suddenly thinking the worst. Images of mom leaving us flashed before me and before I knew it, I ran up to him and hugged him for the first time in over a year. I clutched onto him, not wanting him to leave us like mom did. I felt him tense up, before relaxing and hugging me back.

"Please come back." I whispered, pulling away slowly. I looked up at him and he nodded in response, making me let out a soft sigh of relief. I gave him a small smile, "Have fun."

He gave me a small smile and nodded, before walking out and closing the door behind him. I went to the fridge and got myself an apple to eat while waiting for Red. By the time I had finished, I heard her car horn honk and went out to meet her by her sleek, red car. I got in and we drove towards the main city.

"Are you ever going to get a car of your own?" Red asked as we drove down and turned onto the main street.

"I'm working on it," I told her, letting out a soft sigh before casting my gaze to out the window. Soon enough, we pulled into the mall's carpark and Red searched around for a parking spot. When we found one, we both got out and walked towards the building.

"Y'know, I've been living in this town for more than half a year and I haven't been to the main mall once." I smirked as Red and I walked in, feeling the cool aircon hit us.

"I don't blame ya," Red said as I followed her towards one of the many dress shops, "I never come here. I usually drive half an hour to the next city. They've got way better shops than this crappy place."

I smirked as Red walked into a shop named 'Beauty Boutique'. They were virtually empty of people; except for the platinum blonde, fashionably dressed woman behind the counter who was drowning in sparkling jewellery; and almost completely sold out of prom gowns. We searched around for a few minutes, until I heard Red's voice call me over.

Once I reached her, I gasped at the dress she found for herself - a satin red, low v-neck gown with thin shoulder straps. She looked at me, a large grin on her face. "It's perfect," we said in unison.

Red went into the change room to try it on. The woman from behind the counter walked up to me and stood next to me. "Last minute prom shopping?" She asked me.

I nodded, waiting for Red's glamorous reveal. "Way too last minute."

We were both silent for a moment; I felt the woman's eyes on me, studying me almost. "I got it," she said quietly to herself, before heading back behind the counter.
