Something had happened between them after last night.
It was like in the past couple of days, they had been growing apart. Not that the two of them were that close anyway, but after what happened, everything was tense.
After all, they knew how to earn money themselves, and they didn't really need each other. Honestly they knew that a long time ago. The few nights after, they still went together, but not much talking.
Something happened to Brad. On the outside he seemed cold and dismissive. Inside he was full of sorrow. It was nothing new, but still, something was different.
Because lately Brad had been feeling somewhat depressed. Usually he was optimistic. Bright future, looking forward to improvement. Always.
Inhaling the last bit of the cigarette, he shook his head. "I don't know. I mean just because you have the money, doesn't mean that you have to spend them so cheaply."
"Yeah." Elizabeth looked at the smoke coming from his lips. It was beautiful, he was. In a special way. She couldn't describe it, but something about his features made her stare.
She thought of that night they had sex. Wondering if he just forgot about it, or just thought it was nothing. Elizabeth couldn't help it. Taking a drag of her cigarette as well, she looked down.
Brad thought about it too. He didn't mention it, neither did he need to because he kept telling himself that it didn't matter. That it wasn't a big deal, which it wasn't. Right? Just because they had sex without getting payed for it, didn't mean that it had to mean something.
Things like those kept interrupting his thought process.
But it was like every time they touched, they wanted to touch each others skin. Ever since their bodies was so close, they almost couldn't resist it. Their minds was confused, and they restrained themselves anyway.
"Anyway," he said suddenly, wanting to think about something else. It made her eyes look at him again. He stood up glancing at her too. "We're out of cigarettes, wanna wait here or come with me?"
"I'll come." She said lowly, and they walked. They entered the liquor store, eyes bright. Shelves filled with alcohol. The two of them could use some. Brad walked up to the counter, smiling to the woman behind it.
"Hi," he said, before looking down, taking money out of his pocket. She replied along with a returning smile. "Can I have packets of cigarettes for this much money?"
The woman in front of him gazed at him, then counting the money he gave. Brad almost rolled his eyes. Elizabeth was standing further away from him, resting her eyes on his movements. While the woman was standing with her back facing him, Brad's hand slipped a couple of things down his pockets.
Elizabeth turned around, looking at the different kind of bottles they had. The different sizes. How she was craving it. She walked slowly to her side, still with her blue eyes fixed on the products they were selling.
Suddenly she felt Brad's hand grab her waist, snaking his arm around it. The cashier said something to him, but he ignored her. They walked quickly out of the store, the bell ringing over their heads.
Picking up their paces, hoping they didn't get caught. Always running from their problems. Always hard to face the truth.
