It was hot, and Camila laid next to Lauren with the sound of traffic bleeding through the open window screen, and all she could think about was the list. Lauren said something in her sleep and Camila tried to close her eyes, but all she could think about was the stupid list filled with unrealistic goals.

That's how Camila ended up staring at the paper sticking out of the book again. Camila sat on the floor with the book and stared at it. She didn't know why it bothered her so much. Maybe because Lauren promised the list of twenty places would be completed, when Camila knew that it was nearly impossible. But she smiled when she thought about Lauren wanting to do that for her. Just wanting to do something like that for her meant the world.

Camila crawled back in bed next to Lauren, being careful not to wake her up.

Lauren shifted after a car honked down on the street. She moved closer to Camila, and pressed her chin against the top of her head.

"Lauren? Are you awake?" Camila whispered, looking up.

"Mm?" Lauren answered with her eyes still closed. Camila thought for a second.

"Do you think someday we could get married?"

"Sure. One day. When it's legal, that is. We'll go out that day and get married."

Camila nodded, and layed her head back down.

"If I left, would you keep my things?" Camila asked after a moment, moving so she could look at Lauren properly. Lauren stroked her fingers over Camila's shoulder, looking out the window instead of her.

"Lauren?" she probed, touching her hip.

"Yeah." Lauren breathed, closing her eyes. "But you wouldn't go," she added, "so I wouldn't have to."

"Married people don't leave each other," Camila whispered, her own eyes drifting shut and then opening again. She didn't want to fall asleep just yet.

"That's true," Lauren said, her voice heavy. "They aren't supposed to."

"I won't go."

Lauren kissed her hairline and then let Camila wiggle free to pull the quilt over them, tucking it first around Lauren's back and then burrowing under herself, pressing their chests together once they were underneath.

"We'll just be married," Lauren said softly. "That'll be just it. We'll just be married and we can stay like this."

Camila turned her head and kissed Lauren.

"You're supposed to kiss at weddings," she muttered, and Lauren kissed her back after a moment of thought it seemed, kissed her harder than Camila had expected her too. She buried herself in the crook of Camila's neck after that, silent.

She closed her eyes, holding Lauren, the ache of emptiness between her legs lessened.

"Oh, Lauren," she hushed, but she couldn't think of anything else to say. Lauren kissed her collarbone and then resettled her head, the skin of her forehead still damp where it met Camila's shoulder.

Another car honked, and a pigeon flew by with a flutter of wings.

"I won't go." Camila repeated, but she didn't think that Lauren was awake to hear her.
