Rayne P.O.V
I woke up early due to the fact that Legolas had early patrol. Everyone was either hungover or tired. Thranduil's parties were better than you could ever imagine but of course I chose to spend my time with Legolas away from the extravagant party. We danced of course but I didn't like the attention. Parties weren't really my thing, I loved to dance but not when everyone had their eyes on me.

I got dressed and put on my sheath of arrows and grabbed my bow. I was dressed in my full armor with a few daggers at my waist. I had started to wear my armor during my stay in Mirkwood. The week Legolas was gone we needed people to help patrol the gates and I had volunteered when I had spare time. Thranduil also thought it would be good if I learned to use a sword decently, Legolas won't always be there to save me.

I walked around town and headed to the gate to greet the guards when I suddenly hear people yell, "Close the gates!"

The prisoners had escaped and were in barrels in the river. They managed to get through the gate as a pack of orcs attacked.

I wasted no time in helping the guards kill the orcs. I watched as Legolas shot arrows as he stood on top of two of the dwarves' heads. I saw as an orc aimed at him and quickly shot the orc down. No one hurts my prince.

Swiftly I make my way down to where he was. I stayed on the banks of the river as he was all once the place. Legolas loved to be a show off in battle and I knew that before I even saw him in battle.

We fought the orcs off as they proceeded to follow the dwarves down the river. Legolas stood on a rock as he watched the orcs leave. Tauriel joined us. A rogue orc lunged at us and Tauriel had it in a headlock in seconds ready to cut its head off.

"Wait, we keep this one alive," Legolas yells at her.

She knocks him out and ties his hands and legs while Legolas looks at me. "Why were you in the fight?" I blinked. Was he mad? "You could have gotten hurt."

"Legolas I can take care of myself," I retaliate.

He sighs knowing he wasn't going to win this one. "I'm sorry, I just don't know what I would have done if you had gotten hurt."

I felt guilty. "But I didn't get hurt," I pointed out.

He just looked at me. "Let's get the orc to my father." He dropped the subject completely.

I saw everything. From the orc taking to Tauriel telling her that a dwarf would die to Thranduil slicing its head off. I knew Thranduil could be ruthless and cold but it brought me back. That was who he was. He wasn't a very loving person but he could be at times. He did whatever he wanted. In his realm you were at his mercy.

"Close the gates. No one leaves and no one comes in," Thranduil ordered.

Legolas left, probable to find Tauriel. I turned to follow him but Thranduil stopped me. "Let him go. When he sets his mind to something no one can stop him. Trust me, I've tried." He walked back up the steps to his throne and sat down. "I see that he gave you the ring. It was his mother's."

"Legolas told me that last night when he gave me the ring."

Thranduil stayed silent for a moment. "I gave wife that ring as a promise to her before I went to war. My son was just a baby back then."

"The promise was that you would return?"

"No, the promise was that she would remember me every time she looked at the ring."

"Why did your wife give him the ring?"

"Who knows. She was unpredictable at times, kind of like you are Rayne. Except she didn't go off fighting orcs."

I was about to say something when a guard came running in. "My king, Legolas just ran out of the gates after Tauriel. We tried to stop him."

"Just as I expected." He dismissed the guard. "I ban you from going after him. It's too dangerous. The dwarves are headed to the lonely mountains to reclaim the lost city of Erebor."

I knew of what had happened to the city of Erebor and of the dragon Smaug. I just bowed and dismissed myself.

I couldn't just sit back and wait for Legolas to return. I reloaded my arrows and headed to the gates.

"Lady Rayne, no one is allowed out," one of the guards said.

"Please let me go. I need to be by Legolas's side. I can't just sit idly by while he's gone."

"Just this once, but don't tell them it was me who let you out. The king would have me banished if he knew."

I bid the guard farewell and made a mad sprint towards Lake town. Legolas and Tauriel had a heads up but I was fast. If I ran at my fastest I might have a chance to catch up at them. Key word, might.

As I ran I thanked the stars that I had been training or else I wouldn't be able to have made it as far as I had. I had managed to find Legolas and Tauriel just as they were moving to cross to get to lake town.

"Rayne," Legolas said as he saw me, "why did you follow me?"

"I couldn't sit idly by. I want to help."

"Legolas, we have to leave now," Tauriel urged.

"Just stay close to me. I'll keep you safe."

I hated how he doubted that I could take care of myself.

It took us a while but we managed to fine someone willing to take us into Lake Town. While we were on the boat Legolas came up to me.

"I'm sorry I got made at you again. I just didn't expect you to follow me. Did my father allow you to leave?"

"No, I defied his orders. As soon as we got word that you had left he banned me from leaving."

Legolas laughed. "You go against my word all the time but not once until today have you gone against my father."

"What can I say, I'm a rebel."

"Well Ms. Rebel, my father is going to be so mad at you when we come back home."

"Since when have you Legolas Thranduilion have cared about what your father thinks?"

"She does make a valid point," Tauriel chimes in.

We laugh not knowing if this would be the last time we would laugh for a while.

As soon as we arrived in Lake Town we were met with a battle. In the dark we fought our way to where the orcs were more densely huddled knowing that the dwarves would be there. In a matter of minutes we cleared the house from orcs and Tauriel proceeded to heal the dwarf while Legolas and I fought the orcs from outside.

I went to search for Legolas to check if he was alright but I saw him riding a horse and chasing after an orc. I just hope he'll be alright. I don't know what I would do without him.
