Song of Chapter: Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne *explicit song*

Luke's face was enough to make me want to leave the house. He's looks so broken like he was blaming himself when it's not his fault.

"Luke, you better not be blaming yourself." I ordered him, I was not going to let that happen.

"Well Melanie what else do you want me to do? All these years you never said a word, while you were getting your ass beat. You never once came to me about this, we tell each other everything and you kept this from me M." Luke exclaims as he lowers himself on the back of the couch letting his forearms touch the sofa.

"Luke, I didn't want this responds from you. I wanted you to be the one in the family that got somewhere, even if I didn't. But now it's good we are both on the right track to get both our dreams." I state to him trying to show that it's okay.

"M, why the hell didn't you come to me." He asks again and I just look at him not really noticing that Wayne is sitting next to my mom, while she has her hands covering her face.

"Luke, I wanted to shield you, I wanted you not to worry about me. Yes, I wanted to tell you, but if I did you would have worried and quit basketball and got a job. I couldn't allow that, I kept quiet. We needed the money Luke, you were at basketball all the time. You never knew but we were tight with money. It was getting to the point where you would have had to quit basketball. I couldn't allow that. I knew that was the only thing that was keeping you going, I was scared I would lose you. You were so angry when dad left, the only thing that kept you happy was basketball." My emotion cracked with my voice. Remembering the hardship my family had to face.

"When we were 15, you were constantly snapping at me for nothing. It hurt, Mom was snapping at me constantly as well. I saw fighting not only as a source of income. But my way out, I would take the bus to the city at night and come back on the first one in the morning. On the way to the city, I would just cry, I wanted so badly to fix this, but I couldn't, I couldn't fix our family." I say as I wipe away a tear that hit my cheek, remember all the rough patches of my life. I fallen, I've gotten back up. That's how life goes, but this was like Jace breaking up with me all over again. I just wanted to punch something then talk about what I've been doing for all these years,

I hated talking about this, I never wanted them to know but I knew one day it would come out.

Luke fell silent, he came over to me and hugs me and I hug him back. I broke down crying, he's been my best friend since the damn womb. I never wanted to lose him, I know he felt the same way.

"I'm so sorry, you have permission to prank me." Luke whispers in my ear and I let out a laugh.

"Dearly noted big brother." I chuckle to him with a smile. I still keep hugging him. Luke has the best hugs, anyone would agree with me.

"This would explain why my tank was always filled, and Tara had way more miles then I remembered on her." He chuckles to me and I laugh and finally pull away. I shake my head and whip my tears away.

"Tara and I are well over friends now." I laugh to him and he chuckles.

"Melanie." My mom says to me with a broken voice, while Wayne rubs her back. "God, I'm so sorry, I was a terrible mother, I never saw how my vices were burning you." She starts crying and my heart breaks seeing her like this.
