Two weeks later I lay in a practically empty supermarket, savouring the taste of the water I had just drank on my lips. Everyday that I was was dead. I was so weak I couldn't even cry.I hadn't seen Thomas in weeks,I hadn't seen any humanity apart from a few monsters. That's the thing about loneliness,it creeps and it grows inside of you like a deep silence.

I wake to the bright sky and I rub my eyes. I grab my gun from my pocket and shove it in my mouth,my finger gripping the trigger. "Sorry Thomas." I mumble through the gun as I'm about to pull the trigger when I hear a cry... I roll my eyes and follow in the direction. The memory of meeting Chuck flows through my mind as I see a girl squirming away from a few monsters. I shoot them down and help the girl up,her eyes lock into mine and I suddenly realise...

"Holy shit!" I choke out "Kat?"

"Dylan!?" She cries and hugs me tight. I hold her close against me as she cries into my shoulder until she eventually pulls away- "where's everyone else? Or were you alone on a supply run?"

"Don't worry, everyone's safe. Thomas is safe. But I'm not with them anymore,I left two weeks ago."

"What!?" She demands "what did you do?"

"They were willing to kill an innocent girl who did nothing. I can direct you back but I'm moving on,I'm heading to a sanctuary."

"I'm coming with you Dylan."

"No! Thomas would want you with him."

"I know Thomas and I know how much you meant to him. If Thomas wanted anything I know he wouldn't want you to be lonely. I'm with you Dylan." She smiles "there's a sanctuary called The Glade. I saw a sign of it. We head there and I hope eventually the rest will come too."

I sigh and nod as we stuff our bags with food and begin to walk-
"Who were you before?" She asks me.

"Just a fifteen year old. I went to school, had a family,I was happy. Not sure much anymore. You?"

"The same as you. I had a boyfriend,a best friend. I was going to become a teacher and I wanted the perfect wedding.the perfect husband and two beautiful children. I guess that's all over now."

"It doesn't have to be..." I sigh "there is still always hope."

"I know," she smiles "please forgive my brother Dylan. Forgive him because it's not over."

"Okay," I nod "I could never stay mad at him."

"I know that."

We stop at a sign that reads- Glade- a sanctuary for all those who come.
"We're close," Kat smiles as she grabs a pen from her pocket and writes on the sign- Thomas, come to the Glade from Kat and Dylan. We love you x

I smile slightly and draw a :) next to our names as Kat smiles back at me "Dylan it's getting late. We should find somewhere to rest."

"Here," I nod to a wood area. We wander over and set our bags down, trying to get as comfortable as possible as I lay back, looking up at the sunset.

"It's beautiful isn't it?" Kat giggles "when the sun sets."

"Yeah," I chuckle "it is."

"You okay Dylan?"

"I think so."

"You know you don't have to be."

"If I never see your brother again,I won't be. I was so stupid leaving him. He was good in this shitty world."

"So are you Dyl,you're a good person,in fact one of the best I've ever known. Remember that."

I shake my head "I don't think the good ones survive."

"Well," she lays her head back near mine "we're here for now. Aren't we?"

"I guess we are," I whisper as I stroke her hair to comfort her "sleep well. Sweet dreams, nothing else."
