Chapter Three— Sticks and Stones
"Hey, you look lost need a ride?""I don't even know you," You said shivering you were still clutching your shirt and the realization had already sunk in.
"Names Tony. I've seen you in the halls at Liberty. Here take this you look cold," Tony said taking off his beloved leather jacket helped you into it zipping it up. "Come on let me take you home."
"I can't go home not like this," You said as a few tears escaped you his leather jacket brought you warmth.
"Where do you wanna go?" He asked looking at you he felt so bad as you looked terrified.
"Anywhere," You said.
That's how I met Tony hey Clay you know that rock you climbed I climbed it too. It was dark and cold I wore thin shorts and a leather jacket with vans on my feet. Tony taught me how to point out possible altercations and avoid them. This was after the school-wide altercation I walked into that following Monday.
"Oh my god that's her," A girl whispered to her friend as people stole glances at you. Getting to your locker you felt the eyes everywhere as people murmured about you.
"What a slut."
"Pathetic skank."
"Is that the girl who tried to-"
"With Bryce Walker."
"Hey, Smith I'll show you a good time if you really want one I heard crazy bitches are even crazier in bed!" Monty yelled you had no clue what he meant as you were lost. You didn't even know who he was on top of that. The guys were laughing hysterically as the girls eyed you with judgment.
I remember standing in the hall lost as to why I was all of a sudden Liberty High's slut. It didn't take long before the rumor had reached me. Zach, you didn't even stick up for me when you knew the truth. Bryce told everyone pulling me into the room was a joke like a hazing since I was a freshie. Then he said I came onto him, apparently, I wanted to mess around and when he said no I lashed out. Not only did he make me Liberty's slut but I was also labeled the psycho bitch of my grade.
At lunch, Bryce and all his buddies made fun of me and shamed me as I sat alone. Justin Foley not so accidentally knocked my lunch into me as I tried to leave. I stood there and cried Zach once again you didn't come for me, I thought we were friends.
Tony did though, once again he gave me his leather Jacket. I was once where Hannah was I felt isolated and alone all freshmen year and if it wasn't for Tony I'd be that girl who killed herself as well. I told my parents I hated it there but they just thought I'd adjust but everything about this town was wrong. Tony, you probably don't even know, do you? That day you came to my house and made me watch a bunch of movies. I was going to kill myself that night my parents were out my sister was at a sleepover. I was ready I had the pills, the alcohol, the note, and the mindset that the world was better off without me. That I was better off without the world.
"Coming!" You yelled panicking hiding the pills and the note you began walking to the door. When you got to the door the bottle of Vodka was still in your hand. Putting it on your couch you covered it with a blanket. Opening the door there stood Tony with a box of popcorn and several movies you had no clue existed.
"Movie night?" Tony asked sighing you nodded slowly letting him in. As he got comfortable it didn't take him long to find the bottle. "Rough day?"
"Yeah," You murmured. You felt blank like life wasn't worth it anymore. Tony could tell you were having a rough time.
"You know what just say the word I'll have my brothers kicking Bryce Walker's ass. All you got to do is say so and I'll make sure he never bothers you again." Tony said fired up making you chuckle softly.
"It's alright Tony," You said softly but Tony wasn't having it.
"No it's not (Y/n) you're smart, and kind, and fun. People care about you, I care about you. (Y/n) Smith, you deserve to be happy," Tony said.
Tony, you saved my life that night you know. I know it sounds crazy a couple of words could save a life but it really could. I really wish I would have said something like that to Hannah. Maybe I could have saved her, any one of us could have saved her.
It's good we're on the topic of Hannah. Everything you've heard up until now was only freshmen year. Then sophomore year came but a little bit before it a girl started working at my job. She was funny and kind, slowly she became my best friend and then she killed herself.
This how I met and lost Hannah Baker.
